Asal's gets or retrieving were spectacular and scarcely believable. Asal is a world class athlete with incredible movement, touch and imagination. And that is Asal who is not as light as say Faraq, Coll or Elias.

Honestly, there was a bit of a vacuum after the previous generation retired (Willstrop, Matthews, Ramy, Gaultier, etc), but it feels like it's now been filled where once again we have several Hall of Fame level players competing at the same time.

Absolutely amazing match, after a bad start Asal is now my second favorite player to watch and he has earned my complete respect, Diego Elias is my all time favorite player to watch.

he still seems to fluctuate a lot - last tournament he played some typically trashy moves. He's not got my respect just yet!! this tournament was much better though.

@@cookesam6 Mustafa seems to me to be much more humble in victory and gracious in defeat than a year or two ago. As for the "trashy moves" I am never sure if they are deliberate or not with all the players - except for the blatantly obvious. A couple of years ago I hated to watch Asal but now I find him much more interesting than Farag or Cole who I find a little on the boring side. Nobody can compare to the beautiful silky smooth strokes and flowing footwork of Diego flying around the court though. He is not only the most beautiful squash player today but all time in my opinion.

Shame to see quite a lot of empty seats for what looked from the highlights to be a great final. Having said that, it sounded like a great atmosphere with a lot of support for both players and appreciation of some amazing squash. At some tournaments there's deathly silence whenever the favourite loses a point, even when the opponent has played a brilliant shot.

I did not see that coming. I am not an expert but have been watching games by both players recently. I assumed Asal would take this one and if he lost it would be on a tie-break in the fifth. Didn't really see any other option. For Elias to take it in three is incredible. I really admire both of these players, so much talent and class on the court.

Elias is one of most complete squash players, moves like Jansher and has the shots, deception and technique of JP. If he can get his intensity and physicality up to where say a Mo Shobagy / Makin / Matthew, he’d be world number 1 for a long time

Incredible match but can we pause a moment and give thanks to Wilstrop for turning Asal around and as far as can be seen, playing fair and clean? Whoever decided to team up the sport’s ultimate gentleman in wilstrop with the ultimate bad boy made a great decision.

This is one of the best matches I have seen in a very very long time! Ellias was slightly more consistent, and at times Asals drops and forehands were not very accurate. Despite this, it made for a super interesting match. That rally at 3:15 and the fact Ellias was two game points down and saved them and won game 2 and 3 is very impressive. Would have loved for the match to gone the distance. Nonetheless there was no drama or BS with this match.

Beating Asal at CIB PSA World Championship 2023-24 was not that satisfying :D This one is gonna go in record like an epic match Asal played well and did everything he could... Elias is too good today

The only two players who can beat Asal are Elias and Coll. Farag cannot handle the pace and physicality of Asal. Elias played impecable here...good defense and superb attacking skills from Elias. This has to be one of his best ever wins!!

Dunno if the highlights skipped some controversy (as they often do) but don't see anything to criticize from either player here. But it's amazing that such a loud and happy crowd still manages to be annoying. Clearly just rooting for one player, little sign of any interest in squash itself. That said Elias did get applause at the end so that was good to see! Anyway big props to both players for an amazing match.

Elias's overal preparation and improved racket setup got him through this time and his shots landed more in his favor generally than Asal's. Asal's shots werent as accurate as previous tournaments. He was having to defend a lot. Maybe he has gotten more used the glass floor courts as opposed to this one, I'm not sure. His volley shots were not as accurate under pressure as the last tournament.

I've started watching squash on mute as of this event. Biased commentators, often so sure of themselves yet still completely wrong, turned me off. Watching without sound is actually a muuuch more pleasant purist experience. We get to form our own opinions situation by situation, and its much less dramatic/contradictory. I recommend!

It's unbelievable but Asal actually stopped cheating. And we all see what happens. Taking a player out of their flow and frustrating the game by the continuous hindering of opponents was definitely something that favoured him. Without it we can simply see that he is not on the same level as Diego Elias

Think Asal should go back to blocking Diego, he only has to do it 3 times and Diego will lose composure and then Asal could stop again and play normally to win. Without blocking, it's incredibly close between the two
