Shoucasters laughing at Gohar's behavior rather than condemning it is really sad. Same goes with Asal. There was so many bad movements from Gohar overall. No wonder they keep getting away with terrible behaviors all the time. This is really poor showing for squash in general.

Agreed, though to give the sportscasters a little leeway - they are just attempting to bring up the excitement level. Which, might I add, is often over the top and now the sport is trying things like this power play to achieve the same. IMO the real joke here is the refereeing and the fishing by the players. I've yet to watch the Asal/Elias final, and I'm not even looking forward to it.

I said after Asal V Elias that J Mazzerella must retire. This match confirms it. He has lost all ability to control a match. Gohar should have been conduct stroke for decent. Hammamy should have had stroke on final point. Terrific match otherwise...

The aggression between these two has been threatening to boil over for quite a long time, and this time I thought it was going to end really badly. I understand competitiveness but both players need a stern talking to. Gohars behavior toward the end would easily have fallen inside of conduct stroke. Kicking the door and whatever else, is totally unacceptable. She totally mowed into Hammamy when she knocked her over. 55 decisions in a 2 hour match is horrible. I don't feel either player (or the referee) could say they should be proud of their performance.

And, possibly even worse, it's simply incoherent! Why on Earth would the men seek referee-awarded strokes in some gender-specific manner? Or, more to the point, _how_ could they? Males have more fast-twitch anaerobic upper-body strength (muscle to fat ratio) than females. But then females have greater endurance, stamina, fine-motor skills, and intrinsic intelligence (as measured by the standardised Intelligence Quotient and Social Intelligence Quotient tests), and as such females would seem to be eminently capable of holding their shots and turning to look at the referee with steely justification in their eyes, you know, as the "men" do. Moreover, one only need to glance at a few Asal matches to see such 'unmanly' actions as 'hand holding' being penalised by the referee. I only make mention of these things because one gets the impression that you have been labouring under the distinctly false impression that males are somehow superior to females. That belief, however, is an objectively erroneous one. Or, to put it a little more simply for you, it is *wrong!* Males are not better than females, in fact, in almost all the quantitative benchmark domains of physical and mental activity, females far exceed their male counterparts performances. The female is the original blueprint, the male is the secondary product. This is why your genetic make-up is dictated to by you having one 'X' chromosome (the female one) which contains 99% of your gene expression instructions, and a "Y" chromosome (the male varient), which contains about 1%, and gives you said upper-body male characteristics. I mean, haven't you ever wondered why it is that you have functionally useless nipples and breasts? I'm not saying that women are necessarily better people than men, because in my experience they are not. All I'm saying is that males are simply a genetic offshoot of the female archetype, that females out-rate males in almost all testable domains of human activity, and that as such it's simply incoherent to suggest that there would be any difference whatsoever between the two sexes of the species _homo sapiens sapiens,_ when it comes to appealing for penalty strokes in the popularly played sport of squash. Honestly, I see what you mean when you say she was blocking Hania, but they were both playing a very dirty game. Also, all the referring seemed to be in favor of Hania. I mean, so many of the last few points were completely shocking regarding the decisions. And I would have to disagree when you say Nouran isn't a real fighter. I mean anyone would be utterly frustrated by the extremely biased calls from the VR. However, her kicking the door like that was unacceptable but I can understand why she exploded.

The issue with the power play combined with no tie break is that it made the point at 9-9 in the 3rd irrelevant, because the next point gohar triggered the power play at 10-9 down and it became sudden death. And presumably Hamammy would’ve done the same.

Man, these two hate each other and it showed. A shame they couldn't settle it with their play because there were elements here of an all-time classic; instead, we go the now-standard screaming, fouls, grandstanding and referee incompetence. PSA needs to take a long look at what they are enabling and Mazzarella should never be allowed near an Egyptian match again.

Great match but it's very hard to root for either player. I watched the whole match live and Gohar was almost constantly blocking. On the other hand Hammamy doesn't seem to be a very nice person neither.

That’s on the referee. They need to be clear early on what’s required of the competitors to ensure free flowing squash. You can’t blame the competitors because they’re so evenly matched, they have to take whatever the ref gives them, or they’ll lose.

I see what you mean about her kicking the glass being unacceptable but I can see why she did it. The decisions were mostly in favor of Hania and there was a lot of bias from the VR calls. And honestly, hania was also intimidating Nouran, I mean Gohar had to go out for medical treatment because Hania didn't asses the situation before playing the ball and ended up hitting Nouran in the face with her racket. It would have been a stroke, and she didn't have to put her opponent at risk of harm. So, honestly, it was dirty play from both the players.

That was a terrific match. I didn’t see a problem with the competitors, but with the refereeing. The referee needs to take control early to ensure free flowing squash. It’s not like these are huge bodies taking up a lot of space making it difficult to clear.

I too think that Gohar should have had a penalty point near the end for kicking the door. These decisions come down to a split second of movement or a few centimetres of trajactory. The video reviews are needed but not this behaviour from both players. I don't watch much football nowadays for the same reason. Too many disputes.

I watched both matches live and it became unwatchable because of the deliberate bumping and decisions required. The ladies match had over 50 decisions in it and gohar copied the asal playbook. How both asal and gohar did not get conduct strokes. Very weak refereeing killing the game.

the refereeing on the PSA tour is destroying the sport at the professional level, which unfortunately has a trickle-down effect on the sport in general - racquet hits stem from the 'play through any and all interference' preference invoked by the modern refereeing, previously such incidents were few and far between, but now get to come in play a lot more often due to the fact that players have to take up the shots, which otherwise they would've stopped and asked a LET for - which is unfortunate, because this puts their safety at risk I'm pretty sure that the refereeing throughout this match was abysmal, as I have only seen these highlights, but to award a 'NO LET' on match ball for THAT particular shot, which is clearly not a winner, is basically a mid length lunge away from El Hammamy coming in, and has Gohar standing on it is; shameful - having said that, the 'YES LET' on the shot previous was a 'STROKE' on any given day and twice on Sunday - but then again, two wrongs don't make a right, so do what you want with that information I've been harping on about the shameful refereeing policies on the PSA for a while now, and I have to admit that with the Men's and the Women's matches now reaching this kind'a crescendo, in terms of ridiculously bad refereeing & insolence on part of the players, towards not only the referees, but also their opponents, negates a lot of the inspiring values the sport innately proclaims to instil I remain in awe of the the athleticism, skill and tenacity of these splendid athletes & will always love this beautiful sport, but I cannot endorse the spectacle that's been made out of it lately, in the hopes of it finding perhaps a wider audience, which either way is not guaranteed - for the PSA tour predominantly still functions via the personal interest of a handful of folks at the top of the corporate ladder and NOT on the endorsements of the corporations themselves I was moved in to writing this down after merely viewing the 'highlights' of this match. I shudder at the thought of having to sit through this match with such inconsistent refereeing and the behaviour/on court conduct of the players mirroring that of a local joint's cock fight (oh the irony here) This kind'a of an 'after-taste' left with the viewer does NOT encourage more viewership by the general enthusiastic squash follower. Yes it MAY have the impact the PSA hopes it would have upon perhaps someone new to the game, or for someone who is looking to add more 'spice' to their viewing experience, which the PSA can't be faltered for - the only problem with marketing that kind of an experience is; the PSA will constantly have to ramp up the aggressive tangent to keep that segment of the audience engaged With the current official practices of the sport already dwindling in to dangerous territory (in terms of on-court safety for the players), and the the quality (or lack there of) of refereeing/officiating swindling players who make, not just their names, but also their living via this sport; is unremarkable to say the least - so pushing it beyond this point, in the hopes of keeping that viewership intact will, I believe in the long term come at a cost that the PSA won't be able to bare I believe the fans have the responsibility to raise their voice, to help steer this situation in the right direction, because no one seems to be awake at the wheel here...

Players who scream or shout after a winning shot, in my opinion, lack confidence. They fear their opponent and thus just want to rattle their opponents physiologically with screams and shouts LOL. I like players who are quietly determined, meaning they have FULL confidence in themselves and their abilities - these are the real players to fear, they only scream at end of winning a set,and not at every point trying to whip up crowd sentiment to help boost her weak armour.

No one would have been injured. Unless that caused the whole court to fall apart. Which obviously would be the fault of the contractors since people could crash into the walls and bring it down if u could kick it down so easily. The first one I didn’t think was a let, so Gohar had to essentially win the match three times, the irony being the point she actually won was the one she shouldn’t have gotten. So three championship points, all three wrong.

The first was way too loose, I know certain players who would shove Gohar and manufacture a stroke, but if Hammamy didn't lose balance I would still think it's a stroke. Last call Gohar's "winner" wasn't short enough, doesn't make sense to go in front of Gohar and having to move backwards after just to play the ball. Gohar was very lucky to win off that decision, should have been Let at the least.

Terrible two last video ref calls... The first should have been a stroke to Gohar, no doubt about it, Hammamy stepped right into her line to the ball and hindered her shot... And the second should have been a stroke (maybe a let) to Hammamy as Gohar backed into her line to the ball which was gettable. Great match though... Real fighting between the two.

@@ewallt I expect any matchbwith that many decisions is going to be a referees nightmare. A matchbwith that many decisions tells you 1 of two things 1. The referee lost control of the match or 2. The quality of play was terrible and the referees lost control of the match.

Although is was a “long match”, take out all the cheating antics by Gohar’s and it would have been a great game. No one pays to watch people cheat like Asal and Gohar. @SQUASHTV (PSA) needs to step in or the great game of squash is doomed.

In general i believe El Hammany is a better technical player all round, she will become No1 at some point. I myself have been playing the game for nearly 40 years now and at a national level in the uk, back the days when the Pakistan and Australia men rules the game was far more fair and technical play. Referees of today are worried how the players react and not managing the game as per the regulations Ladies the same for me they would not compete with the likes of Nicole Davies in her day
