Thanks! Well you have storage for winter now if needed, but I agree that if you are building inside it would be much better if you had the available room and not having to work around things.

I really enjoyed seeing the history of your property. Awesome! As a kid we would find 1800 to early 1900's dumps and dig for treasures. Man did we find cool valuable cool stuff. You've given me homework now. I have to look up what a Jack Pine is. Everything here was covered in long leaf and loblolly. I can still find a few stumps (that turned to fat lighter) and I would have loved to have seen the trees that sat on them. I really enjoyed this video, Squatch. Thank you.

It's wonderful that you have kept the photos showing your start with what is basically raw land. My Grandpa passed over 20 years ago, but I was so glad to be able to sit by the fire listening to him recount the 50 year journey he undertook to not only build his families home but their livelihood with a working cereal and livestock farm on 400 acres. He also had many photos of the progression as well as showing the people and fashions of the time. sometimes its the photographs that tell a better story than the people trying to remember all those years ago

Nice job on your property. My grandfather was still clearing his 80 acres in the late 40s in North Central Wisconsin about 30 miles NE of Wausau. West of Antigo about 6 miles. Dad said he used dynamite on the stumps used a breaking plow and root hook pulled by a 46 IHC H with single wheel in the front. Then a disc to cut up the roots. Then Dad and his sister got to pick up roots and haul them to brush pile for burning after the first snow fall. Dad said that was the worst job on the farm. Dirty and hot summer work with the dirt sticking on your sweaty body. Dad still hates tag alder and willow brush. He is 88. Hope your trees do a better job muffling the sound of Harleys than wooded area between my road and WI 17. It sucks. That and pickups with mufflers cut off. Equipment working or semis hauling good is different.

You have put your mind and soul into cleaning this property to be as it is. The story about the previous land owners was very interesting to me. As it tells the tale of people that are now long forgotten. I can only imagine how much afford it took with just bare hands and horses to move all those stones. I have similar stone piles in my forest and some of them are probably very old. Thank you for recording the process of making a forgotten and seemingly useless property to become a true Luxury estate.

I have to say, you did an impressive job on that road! The first owner of my acreage is just the same. The railroad from back in the day. They got a mile of land on each side of the right of way to finance the original construction of the first railroad. I planted 600 trees and lost 400 to a Halloween blizzard within a year (froze sap in the trees). Enjoy the fruits of your labor!!

Thanks for the history lesson. I like looking at old pics from the folks where I can see how small the trees were back then. I recall the remains of some old homestead building at the family propery in Todd county, my folks researched the property and found the names of the original homesteaders that got the place after the railroads were done and the clear cutting was finished. Yes giant rock piles and all cleared with horses, mules men and axes. Didn't occour to me that you could probably buy dynamite at the local hardware stores then!

Appreciate the back story, it's very inspirational what you've achieved so far. The pine tree is definitely an impressive survivor though some pine varieties grow pretty fast. I helped take down some dying pine trees at church that we know were only about 35 years old and pushing 3 foot in diameter at the base. Then again they are also dying off so Odin is probably a slower more hardy variety

Wonder if you have or could find a picture of that old farm house. Yes the family that cleaned off the rocks did lots of work. Logging off the place from virgin forest was lots of work. Would have loved to see how they moved to logs. The keystone lumber company logged limestone mountain across from me using steam engines early 1900's. The railroad bed along side the cheat river is still there and I know the tie point across the river on my property where they anchored a skyway. It would have been wonderful to see the donkey engines etc. running My grandmothers sister Marie cooked for the logging camps. She showed me when she was still alive a picture her when she was young and the biggest skillet you have ever seen. Maybe an idea for content is if you can find and show historic photos in your area of machines doing work? Local history is always interesting to me.

Know the feeling. My wife and I bought a swampy piece of ground with a single wall shack and cleared it and built our own home. Nicely gardened now with decent landscaping, kitchen garden, etc. Just finishing the upstairs bath now. Been at it since the mid-80's. No loans, no contractors. All just us, family and friends. Financed out of pocket and build when you can 😅

I moved to the 80 acres my stepdad owns in 2007, we cleared a few acres where my house is and there was a small stand of oak trees that were 30' tall and their growth was squelched by brush and weeds that I cleaned up, in the 17 years I've been here those trees have doubled in size.

I recommend visiting the Hinckley Fire Museum, and the memorial to those who perished in that awful fire, among other related sites. Excellent experience visiting the museum a number of years ago. Great displays. The nearby grocery store carries Kettle River Frozen Pizza if you want to taste test them.
