Being nearly 60 and 50kg overweight, squats, or even just getting up off or down on the ground, is the hardest thing for me as I have no quad strength. These versions make me feel better about beginning a new routine. Thank you!..👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🇦🇺

As someone around 55 that started exercising again about 23 months ago... sticking with it for a year, taking it slow, and making sure you don't injure yourself... you can make a LOT of progress. But give yourself a lot of time. Stick with it, go slowly, and you will get stronger. =)

I will be 67 years old in June. I have led a sedentary lifestyle for the last few years. I'm 75 kg overweight so morbidly obese. I don't have a chair with arms.😳😅 So I'm moving to the next step. I'm believing I will reach all my goals. I want to weigh 135 lbs. and I'm giving myself by 70 years old to have accomplished my goal.

I do squats as I brush my teeth 2 minute timer on the electric toothbrush and twice a day. Get about 30-40 squats each time. Easy to remember to do.

Sadly, if we don’t keep our legs strong we become feeble and end up in a nursing home. These exercises are a good way to prevent that from happening.

The demonstrations shown were all done with the feet flat on the ground. What are your thoughts about squatting with elevated heels (heels resting on a 2" board as an example). It seems to emphasize the quadriceps more when heels are elevated, but is their any additional risk to the knees or quadriceps tendons when doing them this way?

I have no trouble with the chair 'squats' but when I try standing and squatting, I can't really make my knees bend very far at all. It's a small crouch not a squat. It's not that my knees hurt, but just they feel like they are not going any further down - too weak? If I hold onto the edge of a table I can go further down, so maybe it's balance? I will keep trying. The ones that start from the chair will be good for me to get up and do while I'm sitting for a long time at my desk.

I think this point needs to be considered: Ultimately the body is a machine with the ability to heal itself to some degree. It would be interesting to interview a mechanical engineer explaining the destructive force put on the knee when it is bent at an acute angle. When they design structures and machinery, they have to keep that wear and tear in mind. Seems like there is a formula using the weight of the structure and angle of the joint to determine pressure on the joint. Maybe I'm wrong but seems like it puts a sheering force on the cartilage. Once the cartilage is worn away the joint experiences pain. While the knee can bend at an acute angle it comes with an orthopedic cost. The cost is unnoticeable at first but excruciating by the time you realize you've worn out the cartilage.
