When you think about it, its pretty crazy how quickly Ji-yeong ingratiated herself to us viewers, to the point that I felt equal heartbreak for her sacrifice/death as that of Ali's and Il-Nam's. I mean...we were only introduced to her a couple episodes ago and in fact, the only episode in which she has significant speaking lines is this one. Speaks volumes to the acting ability of that actress.

The most heart wrenching episode of the year, especially their last words. Ali: "Sang-woo? Where are you?" (He still came back to the spot they promised even at the end) Ji-yeong: "Thank you for playing with me...!" 001: "I remember my name, Oh Il-nam."
@iskeypxx3 жыл бұрын
what makes the situation worse with ali, is that in an earlier episode when sangwoo insisted that ali should stop calling him "mister". ali started calling him "hyung" which is basically "big bro". so before ali died, he was like a lost child who kept calling out "big bro".

it's interesting how the supposedly bad gangster guy won the game fair and square, while the supposedly good guys (sang woo and gi hun) winning the game by cheating and manipulating their partners/opponents.

He even had the smarts to ask for a change of game when he was losing. Something either of the others could have done instead. And Saebyeok getting angry about not winning fairly and demanding a Jiyeong take another throw 🥺 SangWoo would never lol

Oh jesus, I didn't even think about that. That's such great writing. Like they're supposed to be the good guys, but they were just so concerned about staying alive that they never did the fair thing, which was play the game.

Well, the bad guy did not have the opportunity (dementia) nor the intelligence to cheat his partner. The two other guys were given the opportunity to do so. In a game of life and death, it is human nature to self preservate. It will be unrealistic otherwise.

The more I think about it, the more I find it hard to truly despise Sang-woo. Here he's put in this situation where he can either be nice and die or act like an asshole and survive, as opposed to Gi Hun who gets it easy in comparison. They both have to trick their opponent to win, but Gi Hun's opponents is an old man who will die soon anyway and ends up giving him his blessing, so he can kill him and still feel like he didn't do something that bad (and we, viewers, can easily find excuses for him). Meanwhile Sang-woo just has to accept that he has to trick a kind young man if he wants to survive. As much as I like Gi Hun for having so much integrity, he didn't have to face as big a dilemma as Sang-woo here.

I just can't hate sang-woo, even do what he did to win was awful, in that circunstances I would've done something similar, I mean he doesn't enjoy doing it, he doesn't enjoy manipulating Alli, he didn't wanted him to die, but is him or Alli and he needs to choose and he chose himself as almost everybody would in that circunstances, and I don't blame him for that. I would hate him, if he enjoyed doing what he did, but he doesn't, he just does what needs to be done, he is not an awful person, but the situation he is in makes him do awful stuff in order to survive. In this situation I believe the ends justify the means.

A thing i liked about this episode is that although both Gi-hun and Sang-woo cheated to win over their partners, and their actions are comparable in that sense, their characters are in fact totally different.San-Woo is a cold and calculated player who hardly feels any remorse for Ali's demise, whether Gi-Hun cries a river for the old man's demise.

Why do everyone said that Ali is kind and pure? Why do everyone think Ali trusted SW fully? Under no circumstances did we see Ali display any kindness. Politeness yes, kindness no. Politeness is a typical trait of low skill foreign workers behaved towards the locals. Ali might have trusted SW and he might not have. You will say he trusted SW because he accepted SW proposal. Ali had no choice but to accept. If SW refused to gamble away his last marble, SW would just not play anymore and both will die. SW gave Ali a lifeline by promising that he will let Ali have his last marble when he comes back from the survey. PS: SW can't look Ali in the eyes simply because Ali would have disputed and the 19 marbles will be returned to him. By the way, Ali getting into this life and death game when he need not, gives me bad vibes. It is like a choice of money (lots of it) vs family. He chose money which is silly because who can guarantee that they will pay off the prize money if you win. SW on the other hand, wanted to commit suicide. That meant that he takes this Squid Game seriously.
