the labyrinthine design of staircase was not only to tire the participants and put them already at a disadvantage once they get to the redlight greenlight killbox field, but also the design of the staircase was inspired from the lithographic print called "Relativity". Relativity is a 1953 lithograph print by Maurits Cornelis Escher (1898-1972), a famous Dutch graphic artist. I hope you can see how it looks like. The print depicts a world where normal universal rules do not apply. Just like in Squid Game.

comparing the deaths from the first game: In Season 1, over 200 players were eliminated (I don't remember the exact number but it was around half). Here, 91 players were eliminated. So Gi-hun really indeed save a lot of them. Gi-hun going back to save Player 444 reminded me of when Ali saved him right before the finish line 😢 btw as a Korean, I appreciate how you try to learn and use the characters' names. It even takes me a while to remember them 😅

There are definitely callbacks in the first game. 1. A guy with dyed hair doesn't seem to take it super seriously. There's a very real chance Thanos would have died without Gi-Hun's warning. 2. "I'm fucked" echoing the moment from the ddalgona when he picked umbrella. 3. Gi-Hun almost falling down during the final red lights, only to be saved by someone from a marginalized group. 4. Gi-Hun telling people to hide behind others, like Sang-Woo did to him. 5. Gi-Hun being the only one to move after the massacre round, like Il-Nam was. I'm sure there are others I missed, too!

@@SunniestAutumn Player 444 was also another callback to when one player who'd already been shot grabbed onto Gi-hun's leg asking for help but since they were still far from the finish line, Gi-hun couldn't really do anything but leave him behind to die. He probably was reminded of that moment in this ep.

I binged the entire season today and i love reliving it through reactors

Someone who wasn't confused why 444 was shot twice. It's wild so many reactors were confused why he was shot again. Gi-Hun risking his life going back to get him was pointless.

there was no "pool of writers".. the only writer was the director himself.

I very much understand why writers and authors and film makers often include characters like annoying shamans, philosophers, or other figures that deliver cryptic, nonsensical, or foreboding messages for several reasons. Characters who deliver cryptic, nonsensical, or foreboding messages enrich narratives by introducing complexity and depth. They challenge the reader's and film watchers' perceptions and provide an avenue for exploring existential questions while enhancing the thematic richness of the creative work. This allows authors and writers and directors to engage with their audience on multiple levels, making the literary or cinematic experience more profound and thought-provoking. They serve various thematic, narrative, and stylistic purposes in their works. Other reasons may include: A. Foreshadowing and Themes: - Such characters often deliver prophecies or ominous warnings that hint at future events, adding an element of suspense or tension. They can encapsulate the themes of fate, destiny, or the unpredictability of life, prompting readers to consider deeper philosophical or existential questions. B. Alternative Perspectives: - Characters like shamans or philosophers provide alternative viewpoints, and critical social commentary that critiques society or group of people, that may challenge the mainstream narrative of the story or societal norms. They can represent wisdom, intuition, or irrationality, allowing the audience to explore issues from multiple, and oftentimes, uncomfortable, angles just to deepen the exploration of truth or what could be possible for the characters' destiny. C. Symbolism: - Such figures can be symbolic representations of the internal struggles of other characters or society at large. They may voice the subconscious fears, desires, or moral dilemmas that the main characters grapple with, thus enriching the narrative of Squid Game. D. Comic Relief or Absurdity: - In some contexts, these characters provide comic relief through their absurdity or eccentric behavior. Their nonsensical speeches can serve as a contrast to more serious themes, allowing the audience to engage with the narrative in a lighter manner while still conveying important messages. E. Critique of Rationality: - By introducing characters that speak in an unintelligible or mystical way, authors and film makers often critique the limitations of rational thought and conventional understanding. This invites readers and film watchers to contemplate the complexities of human experience, leading to a more profound exploration of the themes at play. F. Cultural Reflection: - In many cultures, shamans and wise figures hold a significant role in folklore and tradition. By incorporating such characters, writers may aim to reflect cultural elements and histories, connecting contemporary readers with timeless narratives and societal issues. G. Character Development: - These characters can also serve as catalysts for the development of other characters. The interaction with a shaman or philosopher often propels protagonists into deeper reflection or personal growth, compelling them to confront their beliefs or decisions. E. Mysticism and Spirituality: - Including characters of mystical or philosophical nature allows authors to explore spiritual themes and the metaphysical aspects of existence. This exploration can prompt readers to contemplate questions about life, morality, ethics, justice, and the universe.

Too bad Thanos couldn’t use the time stone to save 196 from getting shot in the head that girl was 🥵. Where’s your infinity stones on that one 230? 😆

They lost way over half in first game; lost a lot less than half; he saved a lot of people this time around. Gi-Hun is a principled and brave person rifling his life for the sake of others; unusual in this time of age.
