I don't think Sang-Woo was being sexist. It'd be one thing if it was just a regular game, but their lives were on the line. Empirical data has shown that men tend to perform better than women, on average, for both physical games and strategic games. Physical games requires visual processing and good motor function, which are controlled by regions in the frontal lobes of the brain. When playing physical games (where there is scoring, rules, and objectives), men have more activation in specific areas of the brain (nucleus accumbens, amygdala, and orbitofrontal cortex) (the parts of the brain associated with reward, as well as sight, taste, and smell). Men get more of a "reward" feeling than their female counterparts (for the same completion of a task within a game). With regards to strategic games, men, on average, find the optimal strategy (and shortcuts that are deemed okay/within the rules) more often than women and perform better than women (perhaps as a result of having more brain activation?). Men dominate the top rankings in the vast majority of both board game competitions, as well as video game competitions. I love women, and I would advocate for a mixed team in any other situation. Of course, I like to judge people on an individual, case-by-case basis. But when your life is on the line? I'd probably go the way Sang-Woo did. Every time I play board games or video games with my friends, the girls almost always do worse than the guys and they always lose first/never win, compared to the guys (and this is across many different friend groups).

Totally get where you’re coming from, and I agree that physically, men are stronger than women (on average). Strategically, not so much. It’s a known fact that video games are geared-towards men. That is the target audience. It’s for this reason that many women think they are not as good at video games as men are, and so they don’t practice playing them. They already think they will not excel, and so they do not try. This may be the reason why so many women you’ve met are not very good at playing video games. I’ve had the same experience. I won’t say men or women are better, that totally depends on the person, their experience, their play style, and the game. I will tell you that when it comes to approach, men are (generally) more likely to take risks, which in chess is called an aggressive player; while women are risk-averse, and prefer strategy, making them solid players. In the strategy game genre, women might be at an advantage (assuming everyone has the same amount of experience gaming).

@@maries6368 I don't know about that. I personally think men have the edge strategically too. For all the strategy games I can think of on the spot (Chess, Go, Settlers of Catan, Magic the Gathering, Mahjong, Texas Holdem Poker), men seem to dominate the entire top rankings. In mixed-gender world rankings, there's usually not a single woman in sight at the top. The best woman player (for almost every game) seems to always rank behind several, several men (not just a few men). But I do believe that women definitely have other advantages against men. I think they are better students than men and perform better than men in education. And women, on average, have better emotional intelligence and are more empathetic than men IMO.
