Squid Game Scenes That Were Dangerous To Film

The Netflix hit, South Korean created show “Squid Game” has taken the streaming service by storm as audiences are drawn in by the wild premise, intense performances, and impressive design. What makes the show even more intense is that the actors actually performed their own stunts and went through the tough mental and physical endurance to get through these scenes and bring “Squid Game” to life. If you haven’t watched the series yet - this is your spoiler alert!
The game of Tug-of-War in the show is unlike any other we’ve encountered in our lives - typically the losing team doesn’t also lose their life but all the rules are different in this world. The actors really performed on a raised platform, meaning when they lost the game on the show, they were actually terrified of falling and the nerves we see are very real. When the “Glass Stones” game came along, the actors didn’t have it any easier. The team had built a full glass platform and used plexiglass, so the actors could actually anticipate the dramatic fall. The team made sure all the performers were safe and that the proper security measures were taken as well, but that didn’t mean the experience couldn’t be totally overwhelming at times!
“Red Light, Green Light” is the first big game in the series and the one that really sets us up for what is to come in the rest of the show - aside from the whole premise being terrifying and nerve-wracking to shoot, the performers had to actually look at a freaky giant, animatronic doll.
Real fears were faced and their director bravely led the team to success, but not without serious mental and physical anguish. The result of it all is the extremely binge-worthy Squid Game - full of games none of us want to play!

Like why did he have to kill the good characters!?

Actually what terrifies me the most is the scene where Deok-Su and his crew attack the players at night. It was chaotic in there people dying left and right, blood everywhere. Even the beds started to fall killing a couple of people. The lights were flickering and people were screaming. I’d be so terrified it was the scariest moment in the show from my opinion.

The actors said the tug of war wasn’t between two teams, but between a team and a machine and they all had harnesses on. So, while the sweat and struggle were real, everything was measured so they weren’t in actual danger.

I think what made this show a bit more enjoyable is that not every scene was choreographed to the T. That would be kinda impossible with 456 actors, along with the many workers at the games. As they said, while the danger wasn't there, it would still be scary to drop, and tiring to pull a rope against a machine. They had their lines, and I'm sure they were told to exaggerate their fear, but a lot was probably improvised based on what the actors did in real life. If someone genuinely broke their dalgona, they'd act scared cause they know their character would be shot and killed

There is, however, one mistake in this video: tug of war is not merely a children's game, there are many serious competitions, and it was once even part of the Olympics. BTW in real life it's quite a dangerous game, even without raised platforms, and injuries are common.

Excuse me what did you say about the glass? “The glass could break at any moment!” Was that it? Cause here is the thing. No it couldn’t. The actors all knew if they were going to die in this scene or not, so they weren’t actually sacred the glass they jumped on was gonna break. And the glass they already stood on wasn’t gonna break either. Even if we ignore the hole safety issue there would be, if the film makers used glass that wouldn’t be able to hold the actors wait, it would ruin the hole scene if a character that was supposed to survive, or at least not die yet, suddenly fell while just standing there.

I went to a weekend camping trip with my karate club once. We did tug of war, men against the women and surprisingly, the women won! And the men had a huge pit bull in the anchor position too, lol. I think we won because we pulled intermittently but in unison as in pull!! Rest. Pull!! Rest. The men just pulled constantly and got thrown back every time we stopped pulling, then yanked toward the mud pit when we pulled again all at once.

From the interviews, the tug of war part was filmed with machines on the other side pulling the rope. Only the part where the other teams had to fall was filmed like the description in the video.
