I thought that was bc there was so many of them? After the first game the number is cut in half so more manageable. Plus with all the people were running, having guards on the ground would've meant accidentally shooting people who didn't mess up. Maybe i'm the only one who thought that?
@dickbong3661 Жыл бұрын
@@catewright1575 Nah, I think it's the element of surprise - they're being openly creepy, but they're very careful not to let anyone know in advance that they're playing a death game. None of the game staff really react to the mass shooting, and they have a prerecorded message reminding everyone of the rules.That suggests it's normal for the first death to trigger a panic, and get a good chunk of contestants killed. That's the outcome they want, because it cuts down the playing field to a more manageable number, and makes sure the survivors know exactly how high the stakes are. South Korea has very strict gun control, firearms can only be legally owned by police and soldiers. If the guards were openly brandishing guns, it would be a clear sign that something is very, very wrong here, and everyones lives are in danger. That would ruin the panic reaction, either with everyone already expecting murder and not losing it, or everyone being scared enough to lose it before the game even gets to begin.
@ziongarner4485 Жыл бұрын
@@catewright1575 Tbh it's likely because the players at that point know what the game is actually about (life and death), so they'd be more dangerous and could attempt a riot against the guards. They also wouldn't likely want to reveal the true nature of the games by having armed guards.

I don't feel a ton of sympathy for Sang-woo because he DID have great opportunities and the reason he's in debt is because he embezzled the money from his company and also used his mom's money as a part of it. Gi-hun is portrayed as kind of a lowlife gambler (including stealing from his mom, cancelling her insurance, etc to fund his addiction) but Sang-hoo is just as much a gambler in that sense and he isn't somebody that was failed by the system like some of the others may have been. We do know that Gi-hun got laid off and that was part of his past, and we don't totally know why his other businesses failed, but we do also see that he has really bad decision making skills/impulse control, even if he can also be kind. But yes, the game makers are definitely preying on the type of people that are in a situation where they are willing to be slapped several times for some money and to keep "gambling" even when they are clearly losing, or who otherwise have nothing to lose.

welcome to the world of subbed Squid Game. It really does make the experience a little bit better. I hadn't seen a dubbed episode before watching ep 1 here, but they sounded a little bit like robots reading from a script, very monotone and empty. I really would recommend watching ep 1 in sub again on your own time. The red light, green light doll's song is soooo much creepier in Korean. Good luck with the rest of the episodes, if you thought the stuff until now was brutal... oh man. This show might wreck you. It wrecked me... although I will admit I'm a highly emotional being most of the time. Anyways, nice reaction, see you in the next one.

While i do choose to watch subbed over dubbed bc the translation is more accurate, hearing the actual actor's voice is important to me. It shows how well they deliver the emotion and dialogue and that adds a lot of depth. Separating the actor's voice from their acting is like choosing cheap headphones over theater surround sound.

The first time I watched this, was the dubbed version, because like you I don't like reading the subtitles while trying to stay focused on the show. Seeing that it is a lot better, Im going to watch the show again with the subtitles on, and especially after seeing that the voice of the girl (robot) during Red Light, Green Light is also Gi-Huns daughter in the show. Another thing is that the recruiter is also the father in Train To Busan, can't remember if you noticed or touched on it, but I thought that was pretty cool.

I understand that sometimes the emotion might not come through and yeah, the translation might be off, but when a show has a complicated story I'd rather listen to it in my own language then try to read what's going on as well as see what's happening. You can definitely switch to the sub if you want since I guess it'll sound cooler, but I personally watched the full series in dubbed so I was able to better appreciate it in the end. When it comes to sub vs dub there are some that are very aggressive at ordering people to watch the sub version, personally you should watch what ever is most comfortable to you. Personally if it is something animated then i prefer dub so long as the voice actors are good as the animation does not portray body emotion and the mouth movements are usually close enough to match, however in live action for me it has to be sub and Squid game is a good example of why as there is a lot of emotion in the actors voice that also matches the body actions that just is not there in the dubbed voice actors , its almost like they where not watching what the actor was doing and simply phoned it in
