20:00 I trained myself to focus on visuals by doing solo and turf on mute. This makes it so noise can’t be relied on and so you have to look at your screen and focus clearly on the situation. It helped really well and totally recommend doing “mute rotes” as they help train yourself to be more visual

I almost always play this game on mute while listening to music, I don't always do it exclusively because I do love the sounds in the game. Specials and swim sounds and superjump sound are my favorite.

Most people spend some time bouncing back and forth between S+9 and X rank at first, so don't feel bad if that happens. But I find most advice is useful at any skill level!

@@Andresini-ey5uv well it's pretty much the same for me, just got X rank last month and got demoted once the month ended but school is only a quarter of the way done, so I only have weekends to grind (I grinded from S+5 to X rank for splat zones in 5 weeks with school by getting 1 rank a week with less than 2 hours every weekend). This video is just what I need to improve my X rank gameplay.

@@tyandjtz3571 If you keep at it, you'll start to feel like you're speedrunning through S+ and figuring out what the X rank players are doing better (and getting mad at the S+ players for not being the teammates you have in X lol but try to contain that). Then at some point you'll just manage to stay there.

One trick I have when I’m tilted is going into Turf War and to just try to fool around (because of house rules, if I stop playing, I can’t get back on again, so this is an alternative that works for me. Hopefully it’ll work for other people if they choose to do the same). One of my favourite things to do to improve my mood is taking the gold aerospay RG, slapping a bunch of charge up on it, and spamming the everloving crap out of baller.

I needed this got to X rank on 2 different modes recently and ranked downed immediately, I'm at s+9 on all modes currently.

Most players will go back and forth between S+9 and X, so don't feel too bad if that keeps happening for a while. What will happen is you'll start to learn what X rank players are doing better and bring that into the S+ matches and get out faster and faster until you finally just stay put in X. Good luck! POG! Don't be too disappointed if people start catching up; a lot of people probably haven't finished their placements yet and a lot of times you can see your placement go down even game by game. But that's still a phenomenal placement!

These great insights to help improve in the title. I slowly learned these on my own by playing with teams, scrimmages, and solo rank play. I would had enjoyed it more if the other three modes was covered, as rain maker is the most straight forward game mode in my opinion. Then again maybe some other time in the future we will receive some insight of the other three modes.

I totally agree. To be clear, I would value that information most coming from someone who is a top level expert at the one individual weapon. Me making a matchup chart would be rough enough even on my main weapon, as I'm not at the very highest level of play, but it would get exponentially worse the less familiar I was with the weapon I was making the chart for. That's why I ask the top 500 players if they know of anyone else who's making that kind of content.

Also agreeing in that paint part. Thats exactly why I prefer weapons with more paint but weapons with less paint *fire rate* are also fine if theres a decent sub that could save you.

I thought it was really funny when you brought up hand injuries haha. I got carpal tunnel syndrome a few years ago from grinding this game. So yeah, that's actually a serious issue that you gotta look out for.

Gotta keep the kids safe; a lot of people aren't thinking enough about the potential for overuse injuries in esports in general, especially since Splat esports aren't so established that orgs have pro physical therapists on board to help the top players. If I only get to pick one thing that happens because of this video, it may just be that we prevent another team like Siege from disbanding because of injuries.

Top 500 only in January and thing is is that I now know why my wrist hurts when I play prolonged periods of time(sniper/midline player). Top 500 was pretty luck based for me bc I hit it by constantly getting JP lobbies and destroying them to get it. Good video.👍

Heck yeah. This is the stuff that would really help me get further in X rank, since I usually get to around 2170ish because I don't want to grind. If I can get better at the mental game, then I should he able to get higher up without having to grind it out.

It's definitely valid not to want to play a lot of solo queue, but you've gotta be playing the game somehow if you want to keep improving. If not solo then be finding some scrims and serious league, maybe find a team.

I’m also considering getting Gamer Gloves/Compression Gloves, to see if that can help too in controller handling or button spamming. My best friend actually uses a pair of them when gaming.

As a cross country runner, I know some runners who swear by those compression socks but I personally never thought they did much for me. The stretches are definitely more of a sure thing for injury prevention

“Huge nerd to learn a lot from the video game” Me who is a nerd that been doing my splatoon research: “Say no more”. I been avoiding rank/solo cause I’m more worried about disappointing my teammates cause I play splatterscope so to me it feels like a lot of pressure is being placed on me especially if I’m playing tower control or rain maker which causes me to miss important shots that could’ve saved us the lead. But this video was truly helpful and informative hopefully I can man up and get back into playing rank instead of spending most of my time in the training room or playing Salmon run.

@@R8Spike I personally would argue that Starburst's choice to use the weapon in the finals of Riptide doesn't mean 1. that it played a major role in them winning those games or 2. that the weapon is meta or better than other options for the role it was playing but we're getting into opinion territory here and I don't want my anti-aerospray meme to be taken 100% seriously (only like 95%).

Painting is very important yes. Supports should not be the only one painting the map and when they are. 9/10 you lose the game and the support could paint like 1700 in a match or higher, but there teammates dont paint.

I've played Splatoon 1 for 2 hours total, so I'm not exactly an authority on the subject; it did have a very different metagame with different, more powerful specials and generally more powerful weapon kits. As a general rule, the fundamental concepts will probably carry over, but specific stuff like 'the junior's role is armor spam' obviously won't carry over

At that point we're talking about coordinated competitive play, so all of that advice would be the same as advice for team-building and tournament play. We have a video on building a team on the channel. We haven't really tackled communication and team coordination yet; that's not an area I consider myself an especial expert in, but I could probably shed some light on it at least for newer competitive teams, if that's a topic people want to see covered.

If you lose a lot then stop playing for a bit.... I disagree with that, unless your whole reason for playing is winning... Let's not forget Splatoon is amazing and a fun game, so sometimes it's nice to play for the fun, for the weapons, subs and specials... Not just to win. :)

The reason isn't exactly to prevent you from not winning; it's more to check yourself to make sure you're not playing on tilt. It will definitely have a direct impact on whether you win or lose, but it's more about making sure you're still playing with a healthy mindset.

Hacking is a pretty lame way to get a higher ranking. Like maybe the comp sci part of it is an interesting puzzle but seeing your name on the leaderboard is a lot more lame if all you did was type on a keyboard for a few days to get there.
