I bought one of these up a month ago. Great little guitar. I’ve really like the Sonic Teles I’ve played lately also. I’m a big fan of the necks

Great guitar Jack. Those guitars are also great for intermediate players who are looking for a guitar, but aren’t entirely sure how well they’ll like it and don’t want to drop big money to find out. That’s what I did when I got my 2 squiers. I passed one on and I kept one.

Exactly right dude. I have this and a Strat. Going to keep both. Less expensive than a couple of Hotel nights!

I just got a lefty Affinity from Zzounds last week, it is a made in China model with the string thru body bridge and the body contour in butterscotch blonde. I was surprised by how good it is, some people don't like the pickups but they sound fine to me thru my Marshall DSL1CR and my Orange Crush 12. The frets were decent and I really like the satin neck finish. I wish they made a affordable guitar like this when I started playing 40 years ago.

Sounds good to me. We really are quite spoiled when it comes to affordable instruments that are actually playable. I have had many Squiers over the years and they’ve usually been quite cool. I learned how to do a lot of tech work on Squiers too, and that’s a skill that can make cheap guitars great, since it’s usually just a few small things that keep a cheap guitar from greatness, so learn how to do them and make your cheap guitars great!

My first Tele was an affinity I got for $99 and I have to say it’s a really cool guitar that I’ll probably just keep around until I find the right person to give it to. It worth way more than $100…

I have played the Affinity and a Classic Vibe which I own. If you are an experienced player my feeling is you can get a similar result from both guitars. So much of a players tone is in their hands.

My Squier "Bullit" is on the guitar stand right now while my custom telecaster sits in her gig bag. It sounds so Telecaster and has a wonderful neck. Just like my Les Paul sits in its case while the Epiphome SG Modern gets played every day. Go figure.

The classic vibe guitars are a significant step up from the affinity series imo. I too wish they offered more colors though. I’d buy a fiesta red 50s in a heartbeat. Or a black bound 60s not in baritone.

@@DeepFriedHallelujahIt’s sad honestly. In Fenders point of view makes sense tho because that would eat into the sales of the MIM guitars and cannibalise their own sales.

It does sound good, though I'd agree with the comment that the 'sunburst' looks a bit... harsh. If someone were to drop in different pickups, what would you suggest? Oh and thanks for _not_ using a $2k+ amp and pedalboard!
@mattgilbert73473 ай бұрын
I had an older Affinity Tele (@ 2016-7) and it was just ok. The pick-ups were...not so good. Neck and body were fine, hardware probably needed upgrading. The fretwork on that was pretty good. I sold it off. I have an Affinity Strat and it's not so good. I'll be selling that one too.

I have a couple squire telecasters, a bullet and the vintage black on black custom they came out with in 2004... Only real complaint is lowering the saddles on a top loaded bridge... You can replace the saddles cheaply or put heavy strings on it, but if you use 9s their isn't enough tension on the strings to get really low action. Its still very playable once you're used to it, pickups are decent, theyre in the ballpark of tele pickups, you get a little fret sprout, but mask off the neck and use an emery board... I can't remember if the neck has a lot of gloss on in the affinity , but a little light grade sand paper will fix that... All mods are easy and inexpensive... Great guitars and they're affordable... I love Squires...

Good enough for Mike Rutherford who doesn't think the necks are crap and plays live with them. Yes Genesis.

This is a 2021 model. Better in my opinion. Has the belly cut and the string through design.

Squier Telecasters are okay but the made in Mexico 60s style Telecaster my mom got me a while ago only cost $400 and it sounds almost as good as any of the American made Telecasters and if that was a typical price and not just an extremely good deal then I don't think there's much of a point in getting a Squier when you could get a made in Mexico Fender for only a little more money. Obviously I understand all the reasons why someone might want the cheapest decent option available but in general I'd recommend the made in Mexico Fenders over the Squiers.
@JackFossett3 ай бұрын
I do agree with you there. Although nowadays the MIM guitars are quite a bit more expensive than these. That being said, I think the Vintera guitars are pretty much the best bang for the (modern) buck you can get from Fender.
@KRAZEEIZATION3 ай бұрын
Yes, they are better. Squier are great for kids.
@castleanthrax18333 ай бұрын
Unless you desperately want Fender on the headstock, a Squier is the better option imo. You won't get a MIM Tele for $400 unless you're buying a used one. If you're just starting out, you're better off buying a Squier and putting the money you've saved into buying a better amp.
@borowland57443 ай бұрын
Anybody know anything about the Headstrong amps? I just got the Santa Cruz and it probably the best sounding amp I have.
@AndrewAHayes3 ай бұрын
The Jet and Harley Benton Telecaster copies are IMO better built and sounding than the modern Squier models and half the price, for the rest of the budget you could fit some Texas Specials although the stock pickups are good.
@KRAZEEIZATION3 ай бұрын
With a thin body, slim neck and low quality hardware and electronics I’d say no, it’s not that good BUT there are some people out there that will try to convince you it’s better than a Fender, even a USA made one at that! 😅😂🤣🤣😂😂

Does it really cost that much more to make a very good sounding pickup than a very average sounding pickup ?
@djcrouton26802 ай бұрын
I think the important thing with guitars in this price point is to test them out in a guitar shop before buying. Just because the quality control isn't the best so you can find some that are really good to play and others that have some issues. I picked up one of these a couple weeks ago that has good fretwork and a pretty nice finish overall on the neck. Not as good as the satin neck finishes on US built ones but still super comfortable to play. The volume pot has a bit of stiffness in part of it's range but I'm swapping out all the electronics anyway so that doesn't really matter since the replacement is less than $10. You can also fix that without swapping out the pot but it's something I'm doing anyway. The pickups are ok IMO. I find the neck pickup to be a bit too dark, it's totally usable just not quite what I'm looking for. The plan was always to swap out the pickups anyway so not a big deal and it still sounds good. I'd recommend it for beginners or as a platform to modify as long as you can find one with a good neck and fretwork.

It sounds ok and any dislike of the tone could be fixed with an EQ pedal, however, for that amount of money you could buy a much better T type guitar, for half the money you could buy a better specced T type. The sunburst looks bad on this model IMO the red is too wide and not a misting of red but a solid ring, and has drip marks on it.
