Bought this exact same model a year ago, and all I can say is that it's an amazing instrument. Right from the box, with a good setup and stronger strings, it plays like a dream. I play in a band with another Jazzmaster guitarist (American vintage 62), and my squier is really making it! I absolutely love and recommend it for everyone.

I like how relaxed and chill you are with your presentation while taking incredibly accurate measurements that the companies do not list. "hey I'm showing you this because some of you were talking about it. It's whatever. So just listen and think about it, maybe? Idk. I don't care.." . Maybe a better way of saying it is you have such a great side of technical measurements, and can relay how it is important or not depending on the person. It just helps simplify and condenses the metrics a lot of people look at that MAYBE (probably don't greatly) effect how good a guitar is/sounds. It's all about getting it in your hands and seeing if it fits you hands and what you want. But providing all those details helps those that are like "Yeah I like the body of my guitar at the thickest part to be 25.832 mm, but no more than that or it's Garbage. But it ALSO helps those that are very strict on what they're looking for Well done. All around excellent review, measurements, and honesty about it just being the way it is.

when I saw the Beatles for the first time on the Ed Sullivan show, I had to start playing guitar I was in ninth grade when I saved up enough money to buy a used fender jazz master from a pawnshop on the north side of Pittsburgh. I think it was 1966. I paid $175 for it with the brown case. It was pretty beat up.. paint was chipping off much like Stevie Ray’s guitar, the back of the neck finish was completely worn off from the head stock all the way to the body. It was sunburst with a rosewood fingerboard, it was all there. Including the whammy bar, the bridge snap on cover, and, cigarette burns on the headstock. Everything worked, but you could tell this guitar belong to a professional musician it was a smoker because the case had been on the road, and he did not wipe the sweat off of the neck every time he was done playing. I cleaned the guitar and put new strings on it, and that was my guitar. for all the high school garage bands I was in. And after I got out of school the bar bands and those smoky bars getting home at 4 AM smelling like an ashtray.. overlapping the Jazz Master, when I turned 16, my mother bought me a brand new Schwinn bicycle she bought with her tip money because she was a waitress and we didn’t have a car. But, two weeks after I got the bicycle, a classmate liked my bicycle. He offered to trade me his guitar that he got for his birthday two years earlier for the bicycle. I traded. my mother was mad at me for trading my new bicycle for another guitar. The guitar which I still have, was a 1963 gibson 330 TDC in the original case that my classmate got new for his birthday.. he took one guitar lesson, and then took the guitar home and put it in the closet and never looked at it for the next two years until he traded it to me for my new bicycle.. my mother insisted that I give the guitar back and get my bicycle back. But luckily, the bicycle had been stolen.. so those were mine to Guitars starting in the 60s. I still have the gibson, but I sold the jazz master when I saw the ridiculous high prices they were going for on eBay.I won’t tell you how much I got for my jazz master, but I will tell you this. I bought my wife a brand new car , paid in full, cash with the money I got for that guitar and I still have some left over.. I had tried two different expert guitar set up men to get that Janice master to play better. Both times, when I got the guitar back, it did not feel any different. I was never in love with that guitar once I got my gibson.. so after I sold the jazz master that I owned for over 50 years, I had sellers remorse. But the guitar went straight to Moscow Russia. The buyer just had to have the original 1959 jazz master. He said the copies just didn’t have the sound he wanted.. so I had buyers remorse. I went out and bought a squire classic vibe jazz master to replace my 1959 jazz master with.. to my Big surprise. The squire classic vibe plays better than my 59 ever could, it sounds better, it feels better.. to tell you the truth, it is a better guitar. Wherever they make the squires, they obviously have new modern equipment like CNC machines that make everything exactly the same slashand perfect.. I would suggest anyone that wishes they had a 50s fender guitar, to somehow try one and compare it to the new stuff. The new stuff is better playing, better sounding.. Let the collectors overpay for the old Guitars. I’m happy with the new less expensive better stuff

@@bernhardnizynski4403 There are a few manufacturers that make 335 style guitars that are really affordable as modding platforms. I bought a Grote and the neck is great with a little work. I put the J. Mascis JM pickups in it and it sounds great. I had to basically dremel off the regular post holes of the JM pickup covers and glue dog ear post holes from them onto the JM pickup covers. I have this exact same model, yep had to polish out the frets and oil the neck, I put a genuine tremolo on it which keeps it in tune much better, I also had to shim the neck, I had to locktite the bridge pins, as you play them they slowly unwind and you action gets lower and lower. Once that was done, awesome guitar. Needs a bit of love at first.

Similar experience with my lefty. Was very dusty and dried out. Gave it to my luthier and told him to do whatever he felt needed to be done. High e tuner was damaged, so all tuners replaced with Wilkinsons. I kept the tremolo (though he adjusted it), he shimmed the neck, glued the bridge pins, replaced the pots of the lead circuit and super tidied the wiring. Every so often I have to push the bridge upright. When it leans back the string ends start to rub against the endpoint hole and break. Was setup with 11s. I love it.

Yeah the J Mascis is a perfect combo of vintage and modern. The P90s still sound chimey but can do modern stuff better. The tuneomatic bridge and tremolo placement is better for stability. Jumbo frets feel great. And I think the metal pickguard gives better tone. Yet its got the tinted neck and vintage style tuners. I have the money for an american made Jazzmaster, but there are none that checks all these boxes.

I just bought this in Shell Pink. Swapped out the brown pick guard for a Pearl white one, but then the pickup covers were too off white. So I’m just spray painting the plastic covers pure white. I’m dying to mod this baby more but I’m making myself just play it for awhile and get a real feel for it as she is. I did shim the neck. Also there was some gritty edges on the small frets sides that I buffed out with steel wool. Discolored it a bit, but I’ll just add more oil. I’d like to find white roller knobs, or just paint the ones I have.

I have a J Mascis Jazzmaster and can't recommend it enough. A step up from the CV series and it feels like it. I also have a CV Jaguar which is very nice too so I am not being down on the CV series.

I’ve got a MIM classic player Jazzmaster in Sunburst. I love having the option of the second circuit (even if I rarely find a situation I can use it in - more controls is better). If I had another one I would put humbuckers in it

Thx for the review! You were lucky with the setup, count on costs to give it a good setup, often this guitar will need a shunt between neck and body and minimal .10 gage stringset to not have them pop out of the saddles. But once setup right, best vintage spec jazzmaster there is.

How are they putting bone nuts on Squiers? Yet Mexican Fenders get synthetic bone. I don’t get it.

Pickups sound great on that thing! I have the J Mascis and I like it’s pickups but I’m not sure why so many swap the ones in this model. They sound ideal to me! There’s a guy near me trying to sell this same guitar with lambertone ristrettos in it for $700. It’s been on Facebook for a month. Good luck with that, guy…

I have a J Mascis JM that is quite good for a Squier. It has a nice feeling, slightly chucky neck with very light gloss almost satin finish. The trem was clunky so I replaced with a Fender Pro trem. The nut is next thing to be upgraded. It looks like these JM's are out of production now...maybe.

Never had a jazzmaster. I'd like one this looks an excellent starting point for me. I have a Squier JV 62 Strat so the ne k finish wouldn't bother me at all

I have the same guitar in Daphne blue. I really like it but I did have to shim my neck to get it setup right.

@@landonbailey thank you man you are the best, I like both of them but I'm not sure, I like epiphone casino for the classic rock sound, stones beatles and others and it's super light guitar, on the other hand squier jazzmaster is a great guitar to have, this price to this sounds just awesome

I have been absolutely loving my classic vibe for 6 months but lately I have been having trouble with the bridge and tuning stability. The bridge keeps sinking and sliding around. I brought it to the tech who initially set it up and he “fixed it”, but then after a few weeks it got wonky all over again. I’m tempted to go to another tech to have it sorted but perhaps it needs a new bridge?

I have this exact model in sunburst, and it's really comfortable, to me the neck feels better than my friend's japanese jazzmaster. The only thing I'm not really keen on is the output of bridge pickup. I'm thinking about changing it, because it sounds tiny compared to the neck pickup wich is suprisingly beefy. I'm an bass player and it's my only six string guitar used mainly for noodling and occasional recording. I don't know if the pickup thing is tied to the construction or just part of jazzmaster's charm, but I find it kinda simmilar to how lacking stock bridge pickups in jazz basses sound most of the time.
@landonbailey2 жыл бұрын
have you tried adjusting pickup heights?
@parszywiecklasik4632 жыл бұрын
Yup, got it set up and adjusted few months back by my buddy who's an guitar tech. He measured the bridge pickup output with an lc meter, and told me it's similar to a danelectro lipstick pickup. Still, it's is a great sounding guitar, the bridge pickup just seems to be ok compared to the neck. Maybe the one I have is just one of a kind or something 😀

Have you done mods to jazzmaster pots/toggle/input before? If so, can you recommend any? I’m having trouble finding what I need to buy to do this

Not sure what gauge strings it ships with but the bridge only works well with higher gauge strings. 11's or 12's would do it.
