Squier does "release" bases that "absolutely blows" one away. I used to have the Squier Affinity Jazz V bass. Here in South Texas, especially in the Tex-Mex or Spanglish Churches, there has to be a lot of versatility for every style. From "cumbia, corrido, or polka," or contemporary-rock, or Gospel, they are so versatile. BTW, I see that type of bass in this video in the background.

Funny story in 2018 I bought the 4 string version of this ( 70s vintage modified jazz bass / you called it ). I went back G.C. recently and they did some upgrades to the finish and especially the neck . I've been playing a little over 4 months now ( finally ) and it's completely changed my life . Glad you reviewed this bass . It's by far my favorite Jazz Bass . Of course I'm partial . Anyway great video my good man . Have a good day .

A lot of reviewers tend to credit the jazz bass with the slapping and popping, back i in the day (60's &70's) which Larry Graham in the late 60's invented that technique using a jazz bass, but it was Louis Johnson on the p, bass with flat wounds, popularized slapping and popping on a blonde p,bass. From an ethnic perspective that technique was played on a lot of music on a p,basis, some jazz bass and even some rickenbacker and music man basses. Squire basses have come a long way. I've been playing for about 45 years and have tracked the evolution of bass technology. When I started, there were no round wound strings. I presently own two Squire basses and I think that they are great. Good video

I wouldn’t go so far as to say it’s better. But to me, the build and finish are better than the Sire. The neck is likely thicker than the Sire, though. The Sire wins when it comes to sound. You can get great tones with the V3. But if you want a bass that’ll survive years and years of play, the Squier wins.

I have a Vintage Modified 4 string. It's a killer bass I love it,but as for a true 70s style replica,I think not,I compare it to my 93 fender mexi standard,the only difference is the VM has a bigger headstock,a 70s style headstock,lol. I think the VMs seem a bit rushed on Squiers account,I'm a Fender/Squier fanatic,but the VMs seem like Squier used them to make the Classic vibes ,you know let's build this see how it sellss and whatever people complain about a we'll fix next time type situation. Now I will say my VM as I said I compared it to my actual Fender and the 79s is actually built better of the 2, the soldering job , wiring,etc yea the fender has cheap wiring and shodding gobs of solder all through it wheras the VM has cloth pushback(70s style) wiring, nice clean soldering very nice and neat inside.
@RumblinMan
@RumblinMan 4 жыл бұрын
Aaron Davis nice! Thanks for sharing. The classic series 70’s Jazz bass nailed the vibe pretty well. The Vintera kind of does, but mainly is just a really cool and beautiful bass. I feel like some of the Classic Vibe basses get into the same ball park as the real thing, but most of them don’t fully nail the time period.

Hey Mike! It’s been a couple years since I reviewed this bass, so I can’t remember if there was any particular neck dive. With affordable-end basses, there usually is some degree of neck dive, but I would imagine the Classic Vibe line of Squiers would be considerably better in that department than most other budget basses.

I'm about to buy this same model. However, when I was at the music store trying it, the hum just gets so loud unless both pickups on are on at full volume. As soon as turn the volume down on one of pickups, even just a little bit, that hum/buzz sound gets super loud. Could that be the amp I was using? Or is something wrong with the electronics of the bass? I know single coils hum a bit, but good grief! It was obnoxious! One of the employees said that hum is normal with single coil basses. I've never owned a single coil bass. What's your take on that phenomenon?
@RumblinMan
@RumblinMan 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah man! So the severity of this issue could easily vary from bass to bass, in the event that you get one that isn’t wired as well as others. But, this issue is pretty typical of Squier basses. With single coil basses, there will be some buzz any time you solo one of the pickups, because the hum is only canceled when both pickups are being used. Sometimes with lower-end basses like the Squiers, the knobs don’t fully do their job. This bass would work best for you if you plan on replacing the pickups with noiseless ones.

Hey that was awesome. I have an affinity PJ bass. Was looking at getting a player bass. But my question is. Is the squire name as good as other basses. Obviously the best is American. Should I stay with squire. But looking for something that’s better but is just upgrading pickups make it better
@RumblinMan
@RumblinMan 4 жыл бұрын
I definitely recommend upgrading to a better bass than the Affinity line. The Affinity basses aren't bad, necessarily, but you can't get the same performance without upgrading them to the max. You can stick with Squier and go with a Classic Vibe model, and you'll probably be happy with it. I personally recommend the Fender Player Series, though, because to me they're worth the extra money to have great pickups and really good build quality.
