Honestly, I admire that English isn’t your first language but you still had the balls to make the video anyway. Great job 👍

Well I listen to lot of stuff in English, and write some, but I don't have too many opportunities to talk in English so my speaking is quite sloppy. I'm searching for word's I need on the fly ;D

Great video! However, contrary to what you state in the video, you can actually change the height of the saddles by adjusting the bridge height with a hex key.

Thank you for the essential explanation, I just improved the adjustments of my new Squier Mustang. Lowered the bridge a bit and lifted the cigar (a lot). Nice low action, and now I can really surf 🏄🏼‍♀️ on it.

Thank you, extremely helpful! I'm a pretty experienced guitar tech but have not owned or worked on a Mustang in over 30 years. I just received a brand new MIJ Fender Traditional 60's. Wonderful guitar but the factory setting for the tremolo was atrocious. I had to LOWER the cigar-tube A LOT and a little trial and error with your video as guidance and it is spot on now. This bridge and tremolo is really unique in terms of the steps for a proper set up and this video is great.

Thanks for taking the time to explain all of this! If you don't mind helping me out with a question: I recently got my new CV Mustang set up, but noticed yesterday when I put the whammy bar on that the cigar doesn't return to the same position when you press the bar down or up, so whenever you use it, the guitar goes out of tune and you have to "find" the tuning my putting the bar exactly where it was before. What could be the issue? The luthier told me he'd raised the cigar because the angle on the strings was too small, and they were touching the intonation screws on the bridge, but now it looks like it's crazy high. Could this be the issue? Thanks!
@riffsandpancakes
@riffsandpancakes 5 ай бұрын
There's a solution for that, swap the bridge so the intonation screws are facing the neck, and then shave of some metal on the other side of the bridge so there will be more room for strings behind the bridge. Then You have more room to adjust it. I recommend using one degree shimm on the neck and then set everything up. With 11-48 gauge strings and standard tuning it should do the trick.

Thank you for the explanation! This video helped me set up the tremolo and it is perfect now! Doesn't go out of tune at all. I got a question if you don't mind, what pickup height do you recommend for the CV Mustang?
@riffsandpancakes
@riffsandpancakes 7 ай бұрын
I don't have any rocommendation on this matter, you must tune it by ear. They shouldn't be to far from strings neighter too close.

Excellent explanations. Thank you so much for doing this video. I have a problem with a Fender Mustang that doesn’t hold the tremolo bar even when the little screw on the side is tight. Any tips?
@cantfindamerica877

The bridge does have height and lower adjustment. Those two holes at either end have a threaded black thin rod, if you take your smallest alllen wrench in your tools that come with guitar. The bridge can be adjusted up and down. I too thought it was a fixed bridge, but I found it by accident. Hope this helps.

That was some real nice playing at the end. I just bought this model Squier. It’s the first Squier guitar I bought that was unplayable out of the box. Absolutely impossible to get the guitar in tune. I’ve never done intonation on a guitar but this guitar would need it and a complete setup. I could play lead melodic lines with it but chords were impossible. Not sure if I’m going to keep it. It’s a really unique guitar and actually inspiring to play (avoiding chords) but I’m not certain if a setup is all it needs. A guitar should be playable right out of the box. I don’t understand why manufacturers often send guitars out that have tags showing who inspected what, but essentially are not set up properly. If someone got a guitar for a gift that was this messed up it would really chill the glow. I got several Squier Basses that were absolutely excellent, but the Mustang I got was bad off.
@riffsandpancakes
@riffsandpancakes Жыл бұрын
I get your point, but guitar is made of wood, it's impossible to ship it with full setup worldwide, truss rod should be looser then normal etc. And then proper setup cost money, if You buy a cheap guitar expect that you need to full set it up by yourself. The solution is to buy it in your local store so they could set it up for you. I'm not sure if it's good for a beginner guitarist, I would recommend something with fixed bridge.
@AndreaAustoni
@AndreaAustoni Жыл бұрын
Every guitar can and should be set up. Cheap guitars definitely do not come set up and often are totally out of whack. Most guitars in stores are also not set up. It's no reason to return a guitar. If you have no idea how to do it give it to a good tech and then learn how to do setups yourself, it's literally a matter of turning a few screws. Mustangs require a bit more finesse.

If you want to change tunings, do you have to set up/adjust the height of the posts/cigar all over again??
@riffsandpancakes
@riffsandpancakes 11 ай бұрын
If you won't change the string gauge to accommodate the altered tuning it may need some little tweaking.

Thanks so much for the video :) This is what I've been looking for months now! I watched the complete video in search of a solution with the tremolo system of my Mustang: I can only push the whammy bar towards the body but I cannot pull it like you do with jazzmasters or jaguars. Should I raise the tailpiece (cigar) or what would you suggest to make it work like a normal Mustang vibrato? Thanks so much for the informative video, nonetheless! Best regards from Mexico City!
@riffsandpancakes
@riffsandpancakes 2 жыл бұрын
Yes try raise it a little, then it should pivot in both directions. The goal is that the string behind the bridge saddle should go just a hair above the bridge, so another place of contact for the string is cigar. If the strings touches end of the bridge it cuts all the lovely harmonics "behind the bridge sound".
@brunokubin
@brunokubin 2 жыл бұрын
@@riffsandpancakes thanks a bunch, my friend :) I'll try to do that. These Mustang vibratos are tricky when you're not very familiar with them but I'm sure they're worth it!

any idea why the bridge would keep coming forward even if I'm not using the trem? also it goes really out of tune if I do use the trem. the strings aren't touching the bridge like you said, so idk what else it could be
@riffsandpancakes
@riffsandpancakes Жыл бұрын
It's all about the tension. In your case the tension of the strings is bigger then the tension of the springs under the bridge. Also I discovered that the bridge likes to have it's neutral position leaning to the cigar a little. In this case I can use cigar and have my guitar in tune.
@Ohiopicker2013

@riffsandpancakes Жыл бұрын
Well it's the only way you can get it, and it's through hole.
@stereodelay6601
@stereodelay6601 Жыл бұрын
I think he means that the cigar is at 90 degrees with the guitar top so the hole is exactly on top. As far as I understand, you need to remove the tremolo system and move the 2 springs to another thread to add or remove tension. Changing strange gauge will also change the tension.

Does the whammy bar snap in? Or does it just sit in it freely?

i have one and it's a great value well made guitar and sounds awesome. BUT the trem sucks, let's be honest. most of us have a few guitars, so if u wanna play a lot of whammy stuff, this would not be the one for it IMHO. Hardtail this and get something with a good trem like a mastery or a strat style . :)
