When I CNC parts like your silos, I drill 2 or more holes ( I typically use 1/8" cutters ) in each piece and then use 1/8" dowels as alignment pins through the parts for nearly perfect alignment; no creeping when trying to glue them together. Where possible, for top and bottom pieces, I drill blind holes for aesthetics.
@dukeharmonwoodworking34054 жыл бұрын
I have started to do that but instead of dowels I am using screws. Really helps to keep it together and centers each piece great

I have a squirrel problem. They are eating my avocados. I’ve tried using fake owls, setting traps, blood mill powder, but all to no avail. They still keep coming either by hopping from the Burch tree branches to the avocado tree branches to going around my traps. They are too smart, can’t outsmart them. I give up. Your idea is good, since I can’t beat them, might as well join them. I like to get a picnic table because it’s small, don’t have a big area to install your beautiful nut bar. You’re very creative to say the least! Good luck on your business venture! Thank you.

I love this so much!!! I read in the CNN article that you’ll be selling these and I can’t wait! I just hope you’ll ship out of state since I live in CT. Very creative, well made, and the etching is amazing. 👏👏👍❤️❤️ My only suggestions would be to make the silos taller (I have A LOT of customers so they’ll go through the ‘beer’ in no time) and to make the dispensing ports larger height-wise. The easier it is for customers to access the food, the less likely they’ll chew the wood around the hole to make it bigger, which my squirrels have done to my other feeders. Otherwise it’s PERFECT! Great job, you are very talented 😊

Which nut is most preferred by the squirrels? Who eats the most nuts, squirrels with nuts or no-nuts?
@dukeharmonwoodworking34054 жыл бұрын
Cashews and the ones with nuts!
@Jonny_Red4 жыл бұрын
Cashews arent the healthiest nut for them though I read on a few different sites...it upsets their calcium levels apparently. 🤔
@dukeharmonwoodworking34054 жыл бұрын
@@Jonny_Red I have heard that so I have stopped feeding it to them. Plus it's to expensive. I have been using the natural nuts from the trees around me to fill it. Walnuts and hickory nuts. They don't seem to care either way as long as it is a nice pit stop for then
@Jonny_Red4 жыл бұрын
@@dukeharmonwoodworking3405 Brazil Nuts too arent great either, it acts as a kind of lethargy/alcoholic haze to them and dulls their senses to any predators around. Im in the UK and became attached to the squirrels just down the road in the local park where I live during the first lockdown in March..there was three of them running around all helter skelter madcap fun things and it was brilliant entertainment, I wasnt trying to get close or feed them anything then but I took a few pictures, and then realized one was a mother to be...lo and behold , a few months later around July/August there was around 8 or 9 of them dashing around, so thats when I thought id treat them to little handouts of walnuts/pecans/almonds etc. Now theyre more used to me being around them and one of them is pretty special and comes straight to me and takes nuts from between my fingers , very gentle and lovely. Now a few of the others are doing the same although still a bit nervous in comparison. Hopefully they all stay in the park as it is a wonderful habitat for them, I worry one day i'll go there and some will be missing, or one may stray out of the park onto the busy main road running right next to it.

@@dukeharmonwoodworking3405 I love woodworking and not had the time lately. Your video was educational and hilarious. I loved when squirrely went for it. These would make excellent presents. I have nut trees and could use this so they will stay out of my trees with lights that make it come alive at night because they chew trough the light wires. I'm sharing the nuts out of this video. 🐿🥜🐿🥜

Duke Harmon Woodworking You are very welcome. It’s so nice to see people look after their neighbors and just being a good human being. What’s awesome about it, you had a big enough heart and the incredible knowledge to build that nut house on your own, without being asked to help your neighbor out. I wish there were more people like you in the world. Many blessings to you! 😇💕

Neat project, now you need a squirrel bath. Trust me, you will get the squirrel customers. I have planters outside that do not have plants in them but have the potting soil. The squirrels love to get in them and roll around. I only assume that is how they clean themselves. It's pretty funny to watch.
