How does Kiara's predatory instincts NOT get triggered by the jittery squirrels -- even that one who came in beyond the window & boldly faced Kiara? Is it that Kiara has a special disposition of peacefulness or : Kiara is just so well "trained" or "conditioned" not to attack? Would it be easy to train ANY cat not to attack squirrels? And why aren't the squirrels more afraid of Kiara? Kiara looks like a little ferocious lion lurking behind that glass pane! Weird. ♡

You would be amazed at how many cats will refrain. I trained mine not to hunt. They quit after the first time. Very strange.

@@ramrod0209 My cat would have had it in an instant, as you say that jittery behavior would be a red rag to a bull. But then my cat spends most of his time out hunting in fields in the wild and his prey instinct is honed to a fine edge. I suspect that its an indoor cat and in addition it is smart enough to tell that its owner is happy to interact with the squirrel and it knows full well its not supposed to and is quite enjoying the interaction as it is. So habituation, low drive and smarts is the answer. As I understand it the squirrels also came first so they were already habituated and the cat learned this from the outset as being normal. It appears that the squirrels used to come into the house and have been slowly learning to come back after the cat arrived. Whatever the reasons its still astonishing to see.

@@osric1730 Thanks -- good assessment! I guess they both adapted to a situation & that looks odd. After all, they are not touching each other. Sometimes Kiara looks like she's half-ready to pounce so perhaps she retains some instinct to chase or hunt squirrels. Maybe it's more amazing the squirrels aren't more afraid of a whole Lion-Cat! ♡♡

This may be the first time I've seen a squirrel choose a blueberry.🫐 Usually they ignore them and go straight for the nuts and nut butter. We have about 70 trees in our gardens, my wife has made me put small open wooden boxes on virtually all of them so she can put treats in for the squirrels. They have nuts, fruit berries and biscuits, as well mealworms. I'm surprised the little buggers can climb up the trees to their boxes they are so chubby.

When I was growing up, we had outdoor cats and also squirrels. The squirrels and cats didn't bother each other. I remember one of the cats went and sat on a bunch of the peanuts (because cats are gonna cat), and a squirrel coming up and using its paw to moooove the stomach of the cat to reach the nuts underneath, lol.

There were so many standout moments of cuteness in that video it was getting tough to pick a favourite… until the moment little Rory made his debut appearance with that cheeky little smile as he stealthily crept up & almost managed to sneak past Cutie without her noticing 😂 I also love how every time you throw food on the ground at least half a dozen squirrels instantly appear out of the hedge & rush to grab their share 😊 So good to see some of the less frequent visitors get their time to shine & enjoy the gourmet window cuisine - I’m sure they appreciate your efforts at least as much as we all do ♥️🐿🐿🐿🐿🐿
