Afghanistan was my first foreign deployment. I was a 19 years old Marder gunner and to be honest I was really scared. But after two weeks I got used to the routine at the base. After that first deployment (4 months) I had 6 more. Seeing all of that in a video somehow gives me a strange feeling, but at the same time a nice feeling. It's really strange! But the worst thing is that it was all for nothing….

I grew up hearing about this war so much. It's both a relief that no more blood shall be shed over those cursed mountains. But it's.... also kind of offputting. Like a deafening silence. May we remember those killed in Afghanistan, on both sides, not as soldiers... but as humans. People. Nobody deserves to die. It is something. I was born 2001 in Jan and through 18yrs I joined the marine corps. Well finally 2021 and I happened to be apart of CLB 24 and throughout my MEU going place to place got put into Afghanistan and evacuating people out. Was really something to think of afterwards of being there at the end of it all

the feels bro. Very well done with the camera angles and audio. The overall feeling I got from this video was...stagnation/exhaustion. Going in full of vengeance only to then lapse into a long campaign of taking out abstract targets that are "over there" day in and day out, the same exact thing over and over and over again. Taking sporadic fire and calling in air support, overwhelming firepower brought to bare on some building or a swath of dirt, only for the same thing to repeat itself again and again, with the only reprieve being the pull out, tired and exhausted from 20 years of of fighting.

My Father was stationed at Kandahar Air Base in 2012 during his second Afghan tour. One night, someone blew themselves up outside the wire and my Dad found a charred thumb on the bonnet of his Land Rover the next day. He had to wait for the MPs to come and collect it. That was his most surreal experience out there, well apart from the Camel Spider that was hiding under his helmet.
