This video is really good, one of the best I've seen about bleeding brakes. Thanks for keeping it so raw.

Just rebuilt my 2018 Code R calipers. Applied your technique, hopefully my brake rub days are behind me!

Since buying the bike, my rear caliper was difficult to adjust relative to the front. It was always a mess to deal with after resetting pistons. The pad-rotor gap was unusually narrow and it took 3-4 rides before it stopped rubbing. I finally got fed up and replaced the caliper last week. Now it adjusts, without brake rub, with minimal effort. Looking at forums, defective calipers for the Code R aren't uncommon

@@mtbmonk7076 yeah I replaced my front brake entirely. Back brake was just a rebuild. But if it does not work I will be doing a caliper replacement as well.

I'm just starting to learn how to bleed my brakes so maybe I'm wrong here? But wouldn't you want most of the oil after the last push in the syringe at the rear tire? That way all the new oil is in the system and the old oil is out?
@mtbmonk70765 ай бұрын
I always wondered about that. The sram manual doesn’t seem to factor that. It seems really hard to clear out all the old oil
@leoc90745 ай бұрын
@mtbmonk7076 I did my first bleed. And I just filled up the rear syringe on the last push before closing the system. Most all of the older oil should be in the rear syringe.

how do your codes feel after bleeding them? mine are on my brand new bike. plenary of power but lever throw feels a little too long for me. hoping a good bleed will sort them out
@mtbmonk70762 жыл бұрын
Yes bleeding should help lever return faster
@theydisintegrate Жыл бұрын
Did bleeding help with the lever throw? I have a new bike with these and same issue. I think they're trash TBH. Frustrating.
@tuggers1000 Жыл бұрын
@@theydisintegrate not really mate. codes are weird. they have tons of power when you grab them hard. the lever was always the problem i think. upgraded to Code RSC. best brake i’ve ever had. love the feel and power of it. long lever throw is just a inherent trait to normal codes i think mate.

@@tuggers1000thanks mate, if that's the case, then perhaps I just prefer Shimano

A year after I made this video, I discovered that the rear caliper was defective. So I can’t speak highly of the quality standards of the code r. Since purchasing, it was always difficult to prevent brake rub. After swapping the caliper, it performs great

so.... what if I did get dot fluid on my piston? Rookie mistake and forgot to put brake block in and pumped my brakes and fluid came out all over my piston. Any suggestions?
@mtbmonk70762 жыл бұрын
Are you able to push the pistons back in or are they completely out? If not completely out, then push them back in FIRST, then clean with rubbing alcohol. Let it dry and you should be good to go. If the pistons are completely out, I would take it to a mechanic,
@mtbmonk70762 жыл бұрын
I forgot to add, that once the pistons are back in place, you need to bleed the brakes to bring the dot fluid back to safe operating levels
@pfeffy7772 жыл бұрын
@@mtbmonk7076 I did get the piston back in
@pfeffy7772 жыл бұрын
@@mtbmonk7076 Just one piston came completely out. I was able to get it back in and put a brake block in and then did the fluids again.

that Bleeding edge port makes things much less annoying. I have brakes without it and I wish I had it. ugh
