So what was “Grunge”? At the start, it was a joke. Then it became a simple description of a sound/attitude, as well as a Sub Pop hype promotional term. Ultimately, it became a quasi-genre of music based simply on bands’ Seattle origins. But whatever the meaning is, it’s clear that the term “grunge” has permanently linked those 80s and 90s northwest musicians in music history.

It's funny because in one of Kurt's documentary about his life, back before Bleach, he would go around asking people if they thought mixing hard rock and punk with the Beatles was a good idea.

Most of these guys are only focusing on Kurt. "Nirvana was incredible! Kurt was an amazing guitarist, singer, and songwriter! The drummer and bassist were okay, too." WTF!? People need to focus as Nirvana as a whole. Krist and Dave were extremely important to Nirvana. Nirvana wouldn't be what they turned out to be without Krist and Dave.

When NIRVANA first came out I was in 8th grade and hated all the pop/hair band garbage out there....but when Kurt hit you understood that he was an outcast, just as we were...he wasn't the football captain or prom king...he wasn't cool or popular...and we felt HERE IS A GUY WHO UNDERSTANDS. AND WE MISS YOU SOO MUCH KURT. I remember being in homeroom when it was announced over that Channel 1 News we watched that "Lead Singer of NIRVANA and voice of a generation, Kurt Cobain was found dead of an apparent self inflicted gunshot wound to the head." Now we know different, but he's still gone.

Nirvana changed the game pure and simple. I was a freshman in dental school in New Orleans in the fall of 1991 when Smells Like Teen Spirit Came Out. I knew instantly that music had changed forever. I was proud. I'm a year younger than Kurt and a year older than Dave Grohl. I was proud and I understood the message on a visceral level. It captured the angst and anger of my generation perfectly at the perfect time. They were brilliant.

Lol a dental student commenting on the arts/culture. Nirvana didn’t change music. It was already changed years before and would of become what it was with or without Nirvana. All they were responsible for was being the first huge band that was of the new era. Janes addiction years before had some success.

For me, Nirvana is the most influential band I've ever listened to. I wasn't around in the 90's and I kinda grew up with today's music but then I started listening to Nirvana and it felt so different, I mean it was different for me because I would have never seen myself liking it. I'm really musically involved with instruments and I've always sang but Nirvana inspired me to dig so much deeper into music so it bothers me a lot to hear people say that they're overrated because if you listen to their rare songs and dig more into Kurt's art then you can really see how much raw talent he, krist and dave had. I think I'll always love Nirvana for that

they're doing it to market to more people. In a marketing stand point it makes sense to only play singles because you can bring in the people who don't really listen to Nirvana. For example someone is watching TV he switches to MTV and sees a documentary about Nirvana, he hears Smells Like Teen Spirit which he recognizes from the radio so he watches it. If he hears a song like Blew playing he wouldn't watch because he doesn't know the song.

I grew up in the 80's and yes it had their time for music we had fun and that's what it was. The early 90's had a certain serious raw sound and vibe it will always be remembered for, too bad it did not last any longer. A lot of people I know did not care for that genre but I loved the lyrics and the sound, yes some was depressing to some people but it had meaning and I could relate to it. As for these mainstream celebrities in the video, what do they know maybe they should be asking the real fans of the music what they got from it. As for me there were some great bands to come out of it that are my favorites and I still listen to their old and new music. Not the one hit wonder shit of mainstream music that still plays to this day.Post Millennium crap.I do give credit to the Seattle bands of the early 90's that still survived and can still play even though they have evolved.

A voice and a composition full of desperation, a very powerful voice and " come as you are" an honest composition, but listening Simon Lebon saying that.... Most of them were asked to say so.

Anyone notice how they censored Kurt's middle finger but they didn't censor Jack Black saying 'They were so fucking good'?

So many people saying that they don't see why or how grunge got so popular. Well grunge got popular because it spoke to the largest of the cliques out there.....Rejects (pretty much). If you think about it rejects are everywhere. Either by parents or the "populars" (who are also rejected in some way)
