Played on the Portamento two times now in Berlin and Munich in search for a new fretless bass. This one blew me out of the water. A real temptation though I had fender J-Bazz in mind.

Hy,fellow bassists!!! I've bought me an Ibanez portamento yesterday. The bass is so much fun!!! (I have played an 32 years old washburn bass, for a few years! Ok, you can't compare them, but it is a huge difference, not only the weight of the instrument and different wood types.Oh, i have forget to say, that the washburn is a passive bass, an very cool thing.) To stay true, there is only one point, that i would change on the setting from the ibanez Portamento: If the battery is low, the oppurtunity to change into passiv mode, would be awesome and usefull! But in playability, weight/( balance) and sound variations, you won' t find an goodlookin, fantastic- sounding workhorse, in this price range!!! An absolut brillant instrument for a fair price.(918€) I would say: Go to your next bass shop and check them out for yourself. Action speaks louder, than words!!! I want this bass! I’m in love 😍 I used a Warwick 5 string fretless bass exclusively over the years and yes it was a great sounding guitar and there was those sweet spots on the neck. This bass is one big sweet spot! I love how it cuts through and everything about that sound! I found the Warwick fretless neck a bit chunky. I have very small hands . This is a great bass guitar and I like your bass playing

@@godzoo18 Yes! Finnally I have my bass and definately the right choice. Ticks all the right boxes in terms of weight, playability and wow the sound is incredible. I am back here just looking to see what tools I need to adjust the piezo pickups. Hmmmm wil figure it out. It's the best bass I have had ever, crazy since I have used Warwick, Fender, Musicman and this tops the lot in terms of the sound and the neck. Yet under £1000 that's incredible! I think the Piezo is the main game changer, that and and the neck.

Wow! That’s awesome! I love your description and I totally get you. Everything you said about the sound. It’s a beautiful instrument! I’m mostly just using the piezo pickup alone and I am blown away by the way it really sings on the higher notes and cuts through in the mix and yet on the lower notes yes it really does growl! Haha The sound is surprisingly fat and deep on the lower notes. I’m not really adding much Eq at all. The sounds from the various pickups are endless. I’m struggling to decide because there’s so much to choose from hahaha 😅 There’s been a few teething problems with the setup of the bass. It arrived fine but like all new instruments it takes time to settle in. Also humidity changes everything. Wood moves around a bit. I’m recording at the moment at home but with the warmer weather coming in it can be a bit of a nightmare keeping things in tune 😱 I can fully relate to what you said about switching to a 5 string bass. I don’t know why I was so nervous about it, now I could never go back to a 4 string. I play fretless exclusively but I could do with a fretted bass for some songs. I hope you are enjoying your new bass. ❤

You mentioned Warwick. Can you compare the Ibanez SRF700 to the Warwick Corvette GPS fretless? Are the price and weight differences worth it?

Mercedes W205 Quite possibly. So perhaps those are the same strings that my bass has come with, as I've not changed them since I bought it

Idonious It seems they are D'Addario flatwounds. You can tell by the multi color ends. I cannot see it here but another owner claims that they are in various colors. I know GWB35 has strings like that, not flats though. Weird because for me (I'm daltonist) this Ibanez SR Portamento strings endings (both sides) looks blue. For instance I use great Thomastik flats on upright & electric bass, and they are red.
