We’re coming from the U.S. in October, what are our options if the online application process isn’t available by then? Will we still be able to get a 30-Day Tourist VOA once we land in Colombo? (We don’t wanna get refused entry into the country and be stuck at the airport for a week, waiting for our return flight back to the U.S.) What will we need (exactly) in order to get the visa at the airport/enter the country- other than our U.S. passports? Could not find any details regarding documents required. However, It is advisable to have return/ exit ticket(s) and accommodation of first day. Hope this helps.

For reservation you can book hostels, hotels or AirBnb. There are multiple website like booking.com, mmt. There are aggregators as well. Arrival Card always requires first accommodation details.

Direct immigration. To reach city you will be requiring their currency(at least 700 per person). Hence, exchange a small amount or withdraw from ATM (if you have zero forex debit card). Make sure you are withdrawing a big amount from ATM if you are doing so since there are some fees at each of the ATMs.

I will recommend carrying USDs for better exchange rates instead of Sri Lankan rupees… It is very tough to answer question since everyone’s preferences are different… Still I will recommend 300USDs and If possible activate international transactions on your debit card…

No, You need to provide the address of first accommodation. Just an update: It is good you are filling the arrival card. Lately I have heard people were able to clear immigration without it as well. There is nothing harm in filling. Rules might chance anytime.

@@TheRoamManworld You can obtain an entry in Sri Lanka if you wish to visit. If your flights are booked under the same PNR, you can also choose to opt for transfers. However, in your case, I believe you will be purchasing individual tickets, as the layover between flights is nearly 20 hours.

Travel insurance is not compulsory...It is good to have one. I would recommend it. Return Flight ticket and hotel accommodation of the first day. Often they don't ask for anything. There is no VOA. It is visa free which means you directly go to immigration.

Hi Oshin, You can enter Sri Lanka visa free. You will not be requiring visa on arrival.It will be Normal immigration. You will have one immigration stamp in your passport only since the eTA/e-Visa portal is down. Smooth and simple. 30 days from the date of arrival. Since, the portal is down there are not much information available for extension of stay. Previously, this information was more accessible. Generally, 30 days should be sufficient for a visit to Sri Lanka. I prefer not to provide any information for which I do not have official confirmation from a credible source, such as the embassy or immigration department. Hope that answers...

I’ve noticed that some people were asked to show their return or exit flight tickets and hotel accommodations, while others were not asked for any documents and are stamped through directly. It seems to be a matter of luck. I always carry photos(2), hotel bookings, flight details and insurance(even if if is not mandatory). Hope this helps.

@@yuva145 I don't think they will ask for bank statement(Never found any incident). If they will ask for it you can show in your app else you may give a rough estimation in USD (or show them USDs if you are carrying). I mostly use my debit card and carry some USDs everywhere.

Not sure about the notification you mentioned. If you have UK's passport you should get visa on arrival. If you have Nepal's passport I would advice to connect with Sri Lankan high commission in Kathmandu. I believe this is their mail id: [e-mail] please cross check once

As of October 1, 2024, Indian citizens can visit Sri Lanka for up to 6 months without a visa. This means you don't need an ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization) to enter the country. Correction: As per the notification issued by Department of immigration and emigration, Sri Lanka(Link mentioned below). 1. It offers 30 days validity. Extendable for another 30 days. 2. Entry type is double entry. 3. You need eTA before entering Sri Lanka. PS: Same guidelines for nationals of China, India, Indonesia, Russia, Thailand, Malaysia, and Japan.
