@@kaypee4704 No according to buddhism, if you beleave in creator god, creation, etc you are a" mithya dittika" and you can't become a Buddhist.Thats why hindus can't become Buddhist. Cast system, animal sacrifice(Bali), Deva dasi customs(temple prostitution) , Sathi pratha (widow burning) all are against core principles of buddhism. That's why hindus can't become Buddhist until they give up their hindu practices.

The Bodhi tree is the one which had gold pillars holding it. Other bodhi trees are there to protect it from invaders and other harm. This tree is a branch of the original bodhi tree where Lord Buddha attained enlightenment. Also by offering the oil lamp u make a wish that ur life will burn bright as the light and also u think of the impermanence of life. Like the lamp our life will end oneday. Also the Ruwanweli Maha seya is as sacred as the bodhi tree as it houses the largest amount of Lord Buddha's bones anywhere in the world. So both these places are scred and have a lot of positive energy and they are both over 2000 years old..

When Lord Buddha attain enlightment, he was sitting under the Bo Tree, this Bo Tree in Anuradhapura is a branch that was brought into Sri Lanka thousands of years ago from the Bo Tree that Buddha sat under. That's why this is protected and worshipped to receive blessings. It's as a way of paying respect also for providing protection and shade for Lord Buddha in his enlightment journey.

Ashoka’s wife destroyed the tree, and his daughter brought the branch to Ceylon….. nice to see how it has grown…. Lovely temple ground…… the care takers should use natural plants on those stands to prevent the flies and bugs from gathering….or burn lavender incense…. Marigolds, Basil, lemons will also keep the bugs away…..

Hi Bro Davud, the tree is called a "Bo Tree"or "Bodhi Tree" the scientific name is "Ficus Religiosa" under which Lord Buddha sat and attained enlightenment at Bodh Gaya, in India. The same kind of tree is in Anuradhapura.Bo Trees are found in all places of worship example Buddhist Temples and is considered as very sacred.

Maurian emperor Ashoka embraced Buddhism after the battle of Kalinga before 3 century BC .He was responsible for the spread of Bhuddhism in Sri Lanka .Bhuddha was born in Nepal .

Bdw Ruwanweliseya has a totally different vibe in the night when the air is cool, and much more crowded with devotees. The lit up pagoda is a breathtakingly beautiful site.
