Penusila Laxmi Narasimha Swamy temple is situated at the foot of the Penchalakona Vally which is located in Penchalakona Village of Rapur Mandal in Nellore district.
Lord Narasimha here is Swayambu swamy who has been here since Kruta yugam.
This is 30 km from Rapur, 70 km from Nellore and 85 km from Rajampet. Nellore is most convinent to reach here.
Penchalakona temple is one of the Nava Narasimha temples which all are located within Andhra and Telangana states. Lord Narasimha even after killing Hiranya Kasyapa, he could not control his anger and he came to the forest. To cool him down, Goddess Laxmi approached him in the form of a tribal lady named Chenchu Laxmi and hugged the lord at this place. The Hug is Telugu is called as “Penu Vesukonuta”. Hence this place is called as Penusila and later changed as Penchalakona. It is said that Lord married Chenchu Laxmi and manifested himself as a huge rock.
The Annual festival of the temple brahmostavam starts on Vishaka Shudda ekadaashi during the month of APR and May, which is a Major festival at Penchalakona and is celebrated over 5 days every year.
