We belong to a tradition of Lingayath from Karnataka. Whenever we chose any clothes for auspicious occasions like marriage, engagement, birthdays etc.. my mother(75 now) never allowed us to wear black color. She made sure that there is not even a light black touch on the whole dress/clot/saree ..... She always told black is inauspicious for us.. I now understand why...
