“Nourishment Beyond Need, Health Beyond Hunger”
The Sri Sathya Sai Premaarpitham Foundation launched the Sri Sathya Sai Prema Dayini initiative in August 2023. Since its inception, the initiative has been committed to providing rural school children with a nourishing start to their day by serving them freshly-cooked, healthy breakfasts every morning.
Through this initiative, hundreds of students from remote villages near Uyyamballi, Kanakapura are provided with hot and wholesome breakfasts right at their school premises every morning. The breakfast menu is meticulously designed by a nutritionist, taking into account the specific nutritional deficiencies and local dietary preferences of the children. The programme offers a diverse array of dishes, carefully rotated throughout the week, ensuring a balanced and varied nutritional intake. Additionally, the children are served a fortified ragi drink, rich in essential vitamins and minerals, to complement their breakfast meals.
Prema Dayini hopes to weave a happy nutrition story for the children of our nation. With a balanced and hearty breakfast every day, the schools’ attendance has soared, absenteeism and drop out percentages have reduced, and the students’ attention spans and academic performance have improved.
The heart of the Sri Sathya Sai Prema Dayini initiative lies in Sri Sathya Sai Svedanika, the central kitchen situated at Sri Sathya Sai Vaatsalyam, Uyyamballi. This state-of-the-art kitchen is where nutritious meals are prepared on a daily basis with utmost quality, hygiene and love by the chefs and staff members.
To any onlooker, the entire process may look like a well-planned service initiative. But in reality, it is so much more than that! To those involved in the service initiative, it's about inspiring hope, sharing love, and nurturing a sense of community. It is a loving reminder to these rural children that they are cherished and cared for. Each breakfast meal served is a divine offering, reflecting the true essence of Prema Dayini.
