Hymn on Sri Shankaracharya
श्रीशङ्कराचार्यवर्यं सर्वलोकैकवन्द्यं भजे देशिकेन्द्रम्
I worship Jagadguru Sri Shankaracharya, teacher of teachers, who is revered by the whole world.
धर्मप्रचारेऽतिदक्षं योगिगोविन्दपादाप्तसन्यासदीक्षम् ।
दुर्वादिगर्वापनोदं पद्मपादादिशिष्यालिसंसेव्यपादम् ॥१॥
I worship Jagadguru Sri Shankaracharya who was initiated into sannyasa by the Yogi Govinda bhagavatpada. He was diligent in the propagation of Dharma. He humbled the arrogance of opponents. Padmapada and a host of other disciples offered worship at his lotus feet.
शङ्काद्रिदम्भोलिलीलं किङ्कराशेषशिष्यालिसन्त्राणशीलम् ।
बालार्कनीकाशचेलं बोधिताशेषवेदान्तगूढार्थजालम् ॥२॥
He is a thunderbolt to the doubts. He ever protected all the disciples who served him. His robes had the hue of the rising sun. He expounded the complicated and mysterious meaning of the entire Vedanta Sastra. (I worship Jagadguru Sri Shankaracharya)
रुद्राक्षमालाविभूषं चन्द्रमौलीश्वराराधनावाप्ततोषम् ।
विद्राविताशेषदोषं भद्रपूगप्रदं भक्तलोकस्य नित्यम् ॥३॥
Bedecked with rudrakshamala, he had great pleasure in the worship of Chandramoulisvara. He annihilated all the sins. He always granted a multitude of good things to his disciples. (I worship Jagadguru Sri Shankaracharya)
पापाटवीचित्रभानुं ज्ञानदीपेन हार्दं तमो वारयन्तम् ।
द्वैपायनप्रीतिभाजं सर्वतापापहामोघबोधप्रदं तम् ॥४॥
He was really fire to the forest of afflictions. He removed darkness in the hearts with the lamp of knowledge. He was a recipient of the love of Dvaipayana Vyasa. I bow to him who bestows fruitful knowledge that removes all sorts of scorching pain.
राजाधिराजाभिपूज्यं रम्यशृङ्गाद्रिवासैकलोलं यतीड्यम् ।
राकेन्दुसङ्काशवक्त्रं रत्नगर्भेभवक्त्राङ्घ्रिपूजानुरक्तम् ॥५॥
He was worshipped by kings and emperors. The praiseworthy Sage used to be delighted by his stay on the Shringa mountain (Sringagiri / Sringeri). He had a face as bright as the full moon. He always loved to worship the feet of the elephant-faced god.
श्रीभारतीतीर्थगीतं शङ्करार्यस्तवं यः पठेद्भक्तियुक्तः ।
सोऽवाप्नुयात्सर्वमिष्टं शङ्कराचार्यवर्यप्रसादेन तूर्णम् ॥६॥
One who will recite with devotion this hymn composed by Sri Bharati Tirtha will obtain all good things in life, instantly, by the grace of the great Shankaracharya.
