Pranaam. I understood many specialities about him whose matam is in Kanchipuram with his paintings and beside this there's a separate sannathi for Hayagrivar and both are near Vilaukkoli Perumal temple. Thanks.

It appears that sriman Deshikar came to Sathyagala in karnataka, not Satyamangala during disturbances in Sriranagam, where Abhitistavam was composed.

I always wondered if Shri Vedanta Desikar patronized Varnashrama dharma or he has been portrayed as patronizing caste system by the later day scism - Vadakalai sect? I am surprised to find even Jeeyars belonging to Thenkalai sampradaya also tacitly supporting the Varnashramam - though outwardly denying it. My understanding of Vaishnavam is that it is based on social equality both by birth and by upbringing. I would appreciate anyone replying to my posting.

Mohan Sagar if you had read Rahasya traya saram you wouldn't have commented this. Even if you had, you seem to have taken in a biased opinion about the concept. May swami Vedanta desika bless you and pls don't commit such blemishes in a public forum.

Varna Ashrama Dharma is eternal. In the earlier days, it was stronger in the form of professions undertaken: Brahmanas studied the Vedas and its Angas, Kshatriyas protected the country, Vaishyas served as merchants, cultivators or Gaurakshakas, Shudras as businessmen, cultivators, smiths, herders, craftsmen, service professions, etc. Though traditional professions have been largely dismantled today, Varna Ashrama Dharma still manifests in the form of rituals: Dvijas continue to undergo Upanayana and go through all four Ashramas, non-Dvijas continue their Kula traditions and go through Grhastashrama. Vaishnavism is not based on social equality, but on spiritual equality. Social egalitarianism is a fallacy, men were never made to be equal. Civilization is based on oppression and social inequality, that's an indeniable truth. Now this doesn't mean Shudras were necessarily mistreated, many Shudras were rich businessmen and dominant landowning castes, especially in the South. Many Shudra castes were chieftains to Southern kings. Shudras like Kakatiyas, Reddys, Madurai Nayakas, Sethupathis, etc. were even rulers from 12th to 18th century. Even in the North, Shudras like Kayasthas, Bhumihars, Ahirs, Kurmis, Patels, etc. have been dominant landowning and business castes historically.
