Journey of a Krishna Disciple: A Life Story
Srila Prabhupada recounts his life story, from his birth in Calcutta, India in 1896 to his journey to North America and Europe to preach Krishna consciousness. He spent several years in education before joining Gandhi's national movement. In 1922, he met their guru, or spiritual master, Mahārāja, which led them to gradually leave behind their household life, which included marriage and children. After living alone for several years starting 1954, he officially adopted a renounced order of life in 1959 and started writing books. His first publication on Krishna came out in 1962, and by the time he had three books, he left for North America in 1965.

Vaisnava dasa: One must take birth in a brahmana family to perform yajnas and other such activities, and even one who is born in a brahmana family must be purified by the ceremony of investiture with the sacred thread before he is eligible to perform the duties of a brahmana. Similarly, a candala may have become purified by taking up hari-nama, but he is still not eligible to perform yajnas until he acquires seminal birth in a brahmana family. However, he can perform the angas (limbs) of bhakti, which are infinitely greater than yajnas. Cudamani: What kind of conclusion is that? How can a person who is disqualified from an ordinary privilege be qualified for something that is much higher? Is there any conclusive evidence for this? Vaisnava dasa: There are two types of human activity:

Hare Krishna Prabhu, Chaitanya mahaprabhu appeared around 550 years back, after 4500 years after kaliyuga has begun. Then he gave us the best sankirtan yanjnya, which is hare Krishna maha mantra. My question is, before Chaitanya Mahaprabhu has appeared what could have been the main sacrifice, like maha mantra ?

Hare Krishna prabhu, Krishna naam, worship were all there even before Chaitanya mahaprabhu however through the process of Sankirtan its easier for all kinds of people to approach.

Madhvacarya, Ramanujacarya were all teaching bhakti practices, details may differ but vaishnava principles of chanting, hearing and remembering is all there - even Prahlad Maharaj says sravanam, kirtanam, smaranam. But Chaitanya mahaprabhu made it more evident and approachable.
