This is a Dual purpose construction. It Serves as Bridge for the Road Connection between Srivaikuntam Town with otherside of the River(Tiruchendur - Tirunelveli Road) and also a Dam with Two Irrigation Canals. It is one of the Oldest Dam Bridge on Thoothukudi district.
The Anicut was disigned in 1853, by Colonel W.H.Horsley RE and F.S.Shepherd RE(Executive Engineer), This Construction Project Completed from 1869 to 1873.

Today i went to tiruchendur on the way i saw this dam..Both side of the road i can see lot of banana cultivation and paddy field..Good that this dam provides water fro irrigation .Intially i thought this was constructed by india now got to know it is done by british govt Nice info next time i will plan and spend time in srivaikundam..
