The Fz6 is not a beginner bike! It's a detuned 2nd gen R6 motor but still puts out 100hp. I had one as a second bike and sure, around town if you don't push the RPMs above 6k, it's as non-eventful as anything else out there. Start pushing the revs higher, you better hang on tight. Crazy acceleration and much more comfortable than a R6 to boot.

The bike not having as much potential as a super-sport is the reason I like it! Not strictly a downside for anybody looking for a sporty bike with a more mild seating position, set up for the 90% of riding you do which is at normal speeds, on normal roads. For the slight downside of "we're not fast enough!," you're still plenty fast, 0-60 in 3.5 ish seconds is plenty fast for a beginner

I've had both and the FZ6 is probably the perfect bike with a little work. Should have done a drag race from a stop. The FZ6 would pull hard on the R6. The R6 is all top end which is great for the track but if you live in the real world the FZ is the better bike. If you get the FZ6 flashed and dyno tuned it's a different animal. The computer is restricted and the throttle bodies don't open all the way from the factory (that goes for both of them). The factory suspension is pretty low end but if you have the forks/shock revalved with Racetech gold valves and resprung it becomes perfect for not a ton of money. The forks have no adjustability but you can replace the top caps with preload adjusters. I just wish it had split seats, my tail bag won't fit on the rear of the banana seat and it doesn't look as cool. The R6 is a crappy street bike in comparison. It just looks cooler.
@timo55x24 күн бұрын
I got a 2006 fz6 in 2013, it’s got a full scorpion race exhaust, dyno tuned power commander(100 hp to the wheel), stiffer springs up front with adjustable top fork tube caps, heavier fork oil, and stainless steel braided brake lines up front, I also lowered the front 10mm. The thing has 38k miles and it’s a beast and super reliable. I have a Suzuki 2015 GSXS-750 too that I ride daily, and the FZ6 is crazy compared to it. The Suzuki is so mellow compared to the FZ6. The Suzuki is easy to just cruise on, the FZ6 wants to kill you, but I love it. It’s like riding unhinged dirt bike. The FZ6 is a great bike for not a lot of money.

Hey, thanks for the review. I got myself an SV1000S and now I'm considering a more upright inline four bike that is fun at slower speeds, has a softer suspension and gives out this sweet sporty soundtrack. How would you say FZ1 stacks up against FZ6 from city speeds up to 100 mph? Would FZ1 seem overwhelming as well? Thanks

FZ07 is a parallel twin, FZ09 is a I-3. And i disagree the FZ6 is a beginner's bike. I've roasted CBR600RRs to 60mph and 100mph and he finally caught me at 120mph. The low and mid torque really pulls better. Beginner's bike would be a 250-500cc which tends to be an insurance class around 49hp (500cc) whereas the FZ6 is 98hp (600cc).

This bike is far from an entry level bike. If keeping the rpms below the power band makes it entry level then all bikes could be considered entry level. Ive owned a 2004 and now i currently own a 2008 that looks exactly the same as this one including the pipes and its more bike then most people will ever need. Super fun bike. Super cheap to buy and insure. One of the best bikes to come out of the mid-late 2000s in terms of sound and fun.

As a uninformed newb what factors come into play with insurance cost? Is it displacement, number cylinders, etc? What is the perfect "baller on a budget" bike when it comes to factoring in cost to operate including maintenance, insurance?
@Williamvencil6 жыл бұрын
DJ Nomad Are you just starting? Or have you been riding for a little? I'm only asking because I'm about to do some research for ya, and it'll help narrow down what I'm looking for 👍
@Williamvencil6 жыл бұрын
As far as insurance goes, honestly your best bet is go talk to an insurance agent about the different factors and variables that come into play. That being said, a supersport like the R6 will be more expensive to insure than the FZ6 would be. Not only is the R6 in this video more powerful, it's also newer, and supersports in general get wrecked pretty frequently. I'm FAR from an expert though, so again, probably be best to talk to an agent about it.

As far as budget baller bikes go, it'd be REALLY hard to beat a 2nd gen (2003-2008) Suzuki SV650. Super easy to maintain, tons of parts support available, tons of aftermarket stuff available, totally bulletproof engine, and from what I hear from a few friends, the insurance isn't bad at all on them. And they come in a style too. The standard naked bike, the "S" which has a little half fairing and clip-ons instead of the standard handle bars, and in only 2008, the "SF" which is the same as the "S", but instead of a half fairing, it has a full sportbike fairing on it. The Yamaha FZ6 that Sean is on wouldn't be bad option either, I just don't know quite as much about them :)

I'm 41 yr old, haven't rode anything on street above a 50cc scooter. Rode a few dirt bikes a long time ago and have ridden several 3/4 wheelers with the fastest being a banshee. Just spent 4 yrs taking care of gramps keeping him out of a nursing home and aunt had him put away so she can spend his money leaving me to borrow to get a mustang which the tranny went out 2nd day having it. I'm looking to get a bike to use when weather is right and for a backup after I get this tranny put in. I may end up with a lot of money after I take aunt to court and may end up president of brokenicca.com lol. Just figured I would ask the question so everyone that reads this could know the best route to take if wanting to get on 2 wheels for the cheapest $. Thanks, I appreciate your knowledge/time etc.

I own one of these. I've ridden bigger bikes, but around town, or light touring, it's nearly perfect. The reason I haven't gotten rid of it is because I can't find a reason to. I've got 30k on it and it still runs great.

the best kept secret of the bike world is the model that sits in between these two called the yzf600r which is a more sports spec than the fazer and more touring than the R6 makes it a very capable comfortable bike that is a great all rounder using the full fat version of the fazer engine with 100bhp and a full fairing it’s the perfect daily ride. i paid 850 pounds for mine and it has been so reliable quick and comfortable i can’t think of anything that could replace it for twice as much money

I have one and it's nice but drawbacks are heavy steel frame and carburetors vs injected. Also are known to strip the front sprocket nut off
@ndavis8010 ай бұрын
You are on an fz6r..right? BIG difference between the r version and the standard fz6 is the R has less hp and torque than the fz6. The R is rated around 78 or so hp, and the standard fz6 is around 93 hp. That's huge

yesterday was my first day of riding a 600cc bike , its an fz6 from 2004 , i really wanted an R6 to be my first big bike but i gotta say im quite amazed by fz6 too , im a noob and many ppl in forums would say that fz6 is the best noob bike so here i am haha , also its cheap to get and maintain , cant wait for my first big trip to see how it feels :D
@notmirelnam2483 жыл бұрын
Mine was astonishingly affordable and perfectly reliable. Maintenance costs are low, it sips on 87 octane, and it has a center stand. With 42k miles on the odometer, it's the cheapest all around vehicle that I've ever owned and my favorite to drive. I toured an 1100 mile road trip without becoming a cripple, so it has a clear advantage over traditional crotch rockets. If you're inexperienced, you will have to show discipline to not ask the bike for more power. It's never underpowered, but with the tachometer under 9k, it's very well-mannered. It should be fine for you if you have the discipline for it. I bought mine as my second bike and I think it fills that role nicely. I still have it even now with somewhere around 50k miles of riding experience across different bikes. Keep the shiny side up and don't be afraid to slow down and enjoy the ride.

Bought my first bike a few months ago: a used '04 FZ6. High miles but previous owners kept a log book of all service done. I use it as a daily commuter and it does great. The power could easily get you into trouble, but it's a plus on the freeway. Does yours give a "clunk" when dropping into first from neutral? I've heard its normal.
@bratsogamiolis69773 жыл бұрын
@@PCDoctorUSA yea man its quite normal , most motorbikes do it too , also i had my first trip this summer , it was like 800km , amazing feeling , take care man and enjoy your bike to the max :D

hey man would you consider this to be on the similar level of starter bikes like the ninja 650 because my friend has a ninja 400 that ive road multiple times i would love a lil more power but i love the sound of the fz6r. If u think its too much for a starter on a street bike (ive road dirtbikes till this day) but i know the street is different,, please get back to me and let me know your opinion.
