Bought my V Strom 650 2007 two weeks ago, had to pick it up in Johannesburg S.A, I live in Pretoria about 100 km's from Johannesburg, my daughter picked me up to get the bike, when I arrived at the dealership the bike was ready and waiting for me, but the weather was turning nasty, my daughter asked me if I'll be OK riding back, I told her it's not called a adventure bike for nothing, man did this bike perform well in the rain, and it was pouring down, it's as the bike was in it's element, the tall touring screen actually kept me dry, simply love it.

Hi Leon. Recently found a 2010 Vstrom 650 in Benoni with 5030 km on the clock. Rode back to Durban & still have a smile on my face!! Had many bikes in the last 40 years including the Super Tenere & two BMW 1200 GS bikes & other 1200 bikes. Long live the Vstrom!!

how are you I saw your video, I saw that in the 6:23 minute you turn off the engine directly as much as you do the gear reduction. I also have that problem with my Suzuki, how much do I make gear reductions with the engine off I want help please what can be?

I had a 2011 650 V-strom, put 10,000 miles on it. I traded it in for a Kawasaki Z650 in 2018. I loved the Suzuki, not so much for the Kaw. My biggest problem was the seat height. I lowered the Suzuki as much as possible (3/4 inch) but it I was still on my tip toes. The Z650 being a naked bike exposed me all the wind blast, wore me out on longer rides. Now I realize how much more comfortable the V-strom was. I'm 67, I sold the Kawasaki last year, I'm done riding now, but I still miss the Suzuki.

I was riding a DR 650 but went and test rode a DL 650. First thing I noticed was that it felt about as heavy as the new KLR 650, but also felt like twice the power. I agree, it was super fun to ride.

As far as the audio on this vid, it's just about right -- as much engine sound comes through as in real life. I can't stand bike vids that overpower the engine sound with rock music, etc. I love the sound of a DL650. It's definitely a 'Clark Kent' machine, mild mannered until you need it to be otherwise.

how are they on the highway? can you do long trips on them comfortably?
@FoodExperimentsUnlimited5 жыл бұрын
Personally, yeah, super comfortable, I've taken it up to 90mph (momentarily to get out of an uncomfortable situation), and have cruised at 80mph (to keep up with traffic), very comfortably. My first long ride out was 6 hours, and it was like my 4th time on my '19 650xt. No problem. Granted, I was exhausted by the end of it, but in a very good way, not in the "I'm in pain" way. I'm not confident enough to take it out on freeways too much, (had to on my long ride for about 10 miles), but from my experience, very comfortable. Very good choice of bike, highly recommend it. Stock seat is good enough.

Hi @Sean, How to you compare the adventure vs cruisers for long trips? No offroad required.
@repetitivemotion2 жыл бұрын
Adventure bikes have more suspension travel than cruisers so from that standpoint they ride a lot more comfortable. The seats , on the other hand, are more sport than comfort. So your ass is going to get sore after 300 miles. Whereas on a Harley Street Glide, you can ride all day with no soreness.

How's the 250 compared to this? Amazing 2011 model and amaazing sound from the engine, wow! So sleek! I just love Suzuki and seems this'd be a nice 260 mile trips bike right? Maybe not a DR200 or DR650 for longer rides...if you don't have a nicer seat perhaps. But thinking of having this one striped down to a 35kw A2 as my first beginner. The Only thing is that it could be a little heavy for a beginner or what would you say bout that? All the best!

I have a '19 650XT as my first road bike, and it's amazing. Definitely learn on a smaller bike though, this thing is literally as fast as a Charger/Challenger Hellcat. 0-60mph on it is within .1 second. If you're easy with the throttle, shouldn't be too much of a problem, but it is a pretty heavy bike. (Something like 470 lbs wet).
@joseedumont85204 жыл бұрын
Virgiliu Oprea depend your height. My spouse start with this kind of bike but she will get more fun out of a KTM 390 adventure or a Honda CB500X. i’m currently riding my 2nd DL650XT, for me it’s perfect. i did a track day with it, mesnwhile, I took 3 class of off road riding. i don’t want to fly it but be confirtable anywhere.

Got the same model year as in this video a few months back, and its my first bike after a 50cc. Great first bike if you're around 6' up, any shorter id say its to tall. If you want to do more dirt stuff, do not get it. You will drop it. It will suck. Luckily the bikes a freakin tank, especially if you get a skid plate and crash bars, and it'll just cost you the pretty paint and a blinker. Oh and he stalled on one of those inclines. If you live in a hilly place, this will happen, if you're not careful that will also suck.

Pennsylvania has many Amish communities and many small creeks. The Amish use horse-drawn buggies. Horses do not like crossing creeks where they can see the water. Covered bridges solve that problem. Plus, they are cool.
