This did happen to me. I was in a friends IROC and a GLH smoked us on the highway, with 4 passengers in the GLH!

Just the caption at first is what caught my eye.lol. if you were not in either vehicle you wouldn't understand. Being little I can remember Porsche and corvettes pulling up next to us and give us the old attitude like in Fast and furious, Dom and Brian are out testing the 10 sec car. Pops would smile look away and smoke em, are GLHS would be sitting at next light purring in laughter. I loved that put you back in your seat feeling. Parts are hard to find for her now. As she sits waiting to be driven once again.. thank you for the laugh bruh..

I totaled one of these when I was 17. It broke traction in a curve and I hit a tree. Completely smashed the front end in to the windshield. I loved that car. One fast little car. Out raced several muscle cars. Scary to drive until you gain experience in how it ran.

Omni was the best handling car of its time, and arguably continues to be today. At the time with a few cheap mods it could out-steer everything on a tight track or in autocross, even Fieros.

1984 was the first year for the Turbo cars for Chrysler, laser and Daytona. 1985 and 1986 were the only years for the Omni GLH turbo, the last 500 GLH-Ts were shipped to Carrol Shelby where he did the upgrades, Intercooler, Koni Shocks, shifter, remapped computer and Graphics.

@@jmcfly00 1984 first year for the Turbo Laser/ Daytona. 85-86 only years for the Omni GLH Turbo. Carroll Shelby's shop in Whittier, CA. added the upgrades, Wheels, tires 2 piece intake, front mount Intercooler, Koni shocks, MoMo shifter handle, map tuning, Shelby graphic's. The last 500 (Black) Omni GLH-T's were sent to Shelby's Whittier shop. Do a search on Turbo Dodge or Turbo Mopar Forums and you will find most of this information, also many newsletters before the internet took off confirming the info I posted off the top of my head. Now piss off you little POS.

The Omni GLH-T came out in 1985, and the GLHS in 1986. In 87 there was a Shelby Charger GLHS. Chrysler produced the 2.2L and 2.5L turbos from 1984 to 1993. So there was not a 20 year gap. The Shelby cars include the 84-87 Shelby Charger, 87-88 Daytona Shelby Z, 89-90 Daytona Shelby, the 86-88 Shelby Lancer, 87 Shelby CSX, 88 CSX-T, and 89 Shelby CSX-VNT, and 89 Shelby Dakota. Then from 91-93 then Daytona carried the IROC RT and had the 2.2L DOHC T3 turbo that made 225 HP.

Also, the Omni did NOT have that bad of torque steer. That does not become a problem until you start pushing about 18 to 20 psi boost. Otherwise, the torque steer is pretty mild.

I grew up with a GLH turbo, high school time to current times, what good times on the streets.Now its a low 12s street car that i drive on occasions

In 87 I test drove a new Shelby Charger GLHS and was surprised that it actually had similar acceleration to the 87 Buick Grand National that I test drove a hour earlier. The GLHS had a lot less power than the GN but it weighed nearly 1000 pounds less.

Actually the last turbo Dodge before the srt4 was the 1992 Spirit R/T which would smoke the GLHS pretty badly and was a MUCH heavier car. Of course the GLHS was a better road car around the twisties but the Spirit RT was FAST and had awesome brakes and power amenities. Same 2.2 motor with a dohc head made by lotus put together by, you guessed it; Carroll Shelby.. Spirit RT was good for 0-60 in about 5.5 and slightly under 14 in the 1/4. Mild mods made it even better.

I owned two bought a GLHT brand new in 85 for $9500 then 10 years later I got another one put the turbo 2 engine big turbo inercooler That was a nice sleeper

1987, no Omni GLH's. 1986 was the last year for the Omni GLH which only ran 1984-1986. Only about 3500 made of the GLH and the GLH turbo. 500 of the GLH-S's were made and they were all sold by order before any of them could appear on a dealers lot. The Omni continued on after that as the economy version only until 1990. However there was a 1987 Shelby Charger GLH-S with the same engine. Omni GLH-S 0-60 mph in 6.5 secs with a top speed of 130 MPH. Charger GLH-S 0-60 mph in 6.7 secs and a top speed of 137 mph. I had a 1986 Omni GLH non turbo. 0-60 mph in 8.5 secs with a top speed of 110 mph. Had it top speed on the German autobahn so I can confirm this. Omni GLH's differed from a regular Omni with: low profile 50 series tires. Larger sway bars. Stiffer suspension with thicker springs & stiffer struts. Faster ratio steering rack. Bigger brakes front and rear (drums). All GLH's came as a 5 speed manual only. The Non-turbo GLH 2.2L had a different head and cam which gave it 10 - 14 hp more than the 2.2L in the regular Omni.

You and he are forgetting that in 87 the same motor was put in the shadow under the name csx. In 1989 the last iteration was produced in the rarest of the models the 1989 csx-vnt was also the first variable nozzle turbo every put in a production vehicle I used to own both and I've driven the omni. The 87 shadow is heavier than the omni but had the same engine and transaxle so it was slower however the 89 csx-vnt was the fastest out of all of them by upgrading almost everything about the omni glhs including the wheels which were called fiber rides and were only produced for the 500 csx-vnt models and I can tell you It was a blast!

I couldnt even tell ya how many Iroc's...Trans am's and so many other cars that saw my rear tail lights... before even getting through a intersection!!! and they would allways say what the heck is in that thing!!!

The GLHS did not have a front mounter intercooler it was mounted on top of the engine

The GLHS intercooler was mounted in front on the driver’s side of the radiator. The top mount intercooler setup was offered by Mopar Direct Connection for the turbo 1 cars. It required a modified hood for clearance.
