One thing I keep noticing is how people around me keep talking about "use aisi jagah nahin jaana chahiye tha." Or "Use khud dhyaan rakhna chahiye tha" or "Ladki ki bhi toh galti hui". My problem is that yes, while I understand these comments come from a place of concern, they are highly harmful for our entire society because it shifts the blame from the attacker/perpetrator and fuels the cycle of victim blaming. We conveniently forget the fact that maybe kids like Ankita had a family to support. For such kids, giving their family and themselves a better life might be a big goal. One can be privileged enough to have parents that are already working in high paying jobs but that might not be the case for everyone. I also personally think that putting m*rder or r*pe as a "consequence" for someone's actions might be a little to harsh as again, it puts the focus away from the actual criminal onto the rapist.

Its not about victim blaming or "ladki ki bhi galti". Its about focusing on what is in your control. This sort of job as a receptionist in a resort in a remote jungle area doesn't look completely safe, even if luckily it had turned out to be uneventful (which sadly was not the case). I understand her need of a job to support herself and her family, but she could have been more cautious for her own safety and that trying to kiss incident was a big red flag that she needs to leave this place immediately.

However, had Ankita had the awareness and correct judgement of the people and environment, it would be a lot better for her. Again, it's not her fault that any of this happened but the fact that she couldn't really think of anything bad happening to her definitely didn't help her case. A lot of people in this generation are brought up the same way and it definitely isn't a fault of parenting. My friend's dad was posted in this case from STF dehradun. Unfortunately he died due to choking in his wind pipe during the case. He was an excellent officer. Then my dad was posted in the case. It was so heartbreaking to hear about the case and what happened. For anyone reading this, crime in any district Uttarakhand, except haridwar and udham singh nagar, is not common. I can say this as a son of an S.H.O and a head constable. I was not shocked when i got to know about the culprit, but was heartbroken to see how people take advantage of their power and posession

One thing which I felt after similar news (one old one where a person was kidnapped near manali) etc - is that there is a small group of terrible people in that region (chances are they are not from himachal or may be not even from India) - these are real monster type people - dr*s + kil ling etc - and chances are they have bribed a few officials everywhere - hence they always escape. Some how honest people like your dad and others can find these monsters. I am afraid to go to Manali etc - coz I travel alone and inside small jungles etc. Animal risk is there, but we can handle. Ghanta excellent. Dehradun police is famous for corruption. Maybe karma killed him before he could spoil this case. Crime is rampant, do women even go outside after 6pm-7pm even in cities? No crime reported does not mean less crime. Uttarakhand police is known to never even register FIR just like this.

Just today an article was published in the newspaper about this . Pulkit has been charged with- murder , sexual harrasment, disappearance of evidence under section 302 , 354-A & 201of the Indian penal code , and inducing a person into prostitution under section 5(1)(d) of the immoral traffic (prevention) act . The other two (Saurabh Bhaskar & Ankit Gupta)have also been charged with similar sections , excluding 354-A . I watched this video a few months ago & I was shocked when I saw this article today because it's been a while since I've heard about this case . It's so saddening what happens to Ankita may her soul RIP 🙏🏻.
