SRT6/SLK/Crossfire RCM and Crankshaft Position Sensor Repair/Replace

Replacing the RCM and crankshaft position sensor on my 2005 chrysler crossfire SRT6. This applies to all chrysler crossfires and some mercedes SLK. No start and hard starts are a common problem on the crossfires and slks. To fix this issue we will be replacing the RCM with a new unit from needswings.com. Rough idle, stalling, poor gas mileage, and lack of acceleration are all symptoms of a faulty/bad crankshaft position sensor, which is also a common problem on all crossfires and some SLKs. I just found out that my wife's srt6 has some awesome amg center caps under the factory center caps. I have a short video showing what they look like.

You should join the Crossfire forums, there is also a Facebook page I believe it's called srt6 and AMG sl32. There is also srt6.com it's more like a registry for srt6.

I change it the sensor but than my car won’t run why ??

With these cars a no start can be a couple of other issues. Definitely start with the simple things first battery, check fuses, and start. Could you give me some background information in the car and issue, so we can figure it out together. Did you change just the crank position sensor and did the car have issues with no start before replacing the sensor, also have you checked the fuses and electrical connector for the sensor?

And does the car turn over or does nothing happen when you turn the key over?

After I change the sensor the car starting very well but when I try to drive the car I press the gas pedal after 6 second car starting to run slowly than getting fast.

@@sajjad0090 does the rpms fluctuate rising up to 1,000 or 2,000 and then drops really low to 500 or lower while idling without pressing the gas pedal?

The rpm rising up but takes long if I press the gas pedal the rpm rising after 6 second to 2000

you can try using a small flat head screwdriver and pry between the sensor and the block. You could also try using vice grips and locking on to the end of the sensor and pull while wiggling the sensor side to side or up and down, also put some WD40 or PB blaster on the the base of the sensor where it meets the head. becaredul pulling and prying too hard the plastic of the sensor is probably brittle, and once you get it out make sure to wipe out the bore and take some 1,000 grit or brass brush and smooth any burs out. Hopes this helps if not let me know.

thanks for information . I just bought a Crossfire for $1700. Its a 6 speed has 143,000 it runs like a scalded dog . only problems I have are the remotes don't work they only flash the parking lights the locks only work from the button on console and it only works when car running I cant get car to lock only by pushing the lock button on door and with key when I leave car. the rear hatch only locks when car is in motion meaning when I start to drive in first gear the locks automatically latch and when I am sitting in car with car running back hatch it latched ,hope that makes sence ??, plus I was told when car was sold to me the radiator fan don't work at all and the radiator light is on .only lights on are radiator and tpms thats tire sensors are perhaps long dead they average 7 yrs. and now since I had it now a week I have noticed the pully on drivers side engine its making grumbling sound and I see it wobbling it looks like a hex bolt in it thats looks to be an easy fix. if ya know anything about the radiator or the remotes would be very helpful.

The fob can be programed to open the drivers door only with one press and the passenger door and trunk with two presses. Or, open both doors and the trunk with one press. Fob programming 1: Press both lock and unlock buttons at the same time and hold them down until the red light at the top of the key fob blinks twice. Repeat this operation and the change to the programming is undone Fob programming 2:. Insert the key into the ignition switch. 2. Press either the lock or unlock button momentarily twice. Turn the key in the ignitionswitch to the ON/RUN position within 30 seconds.

There are many reasons the radiator fan won't run : 1. bad fan controller 2. bad fan motor 3. bad wiring/connections Unplug the fan connector and connect 12v from the battery to the 12v fan wire, and a ground to the ground connector. ( BE VERY CAREFUL TO NOT TOUCH YOUR 12V AND GROUND WIRES TOGETHER - YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED !!! ) If the fan runs then it's the other stuff. The PTCM controls the fan control module digitally to set different fan speeds, the first thing to check is that the big fat 12v wire going into the fan control module actually has 12v on it. Chrysler had a recall on some crossfires due to cooling fan issues. 1. Check fuses 2. Try jumping the fan with 12v to see if the fan motor is good 3. If fan motor is good then probably lose connection or the little radiator looking yellow light on the left end of the instrument panel - you can't miss that light. If that light is not on, you either have a bad fan motor or bad PTCM. If the FCM is really bad, the PTCM should light the light. WOW thanks for all that information. can I ask were the PTCM and FCM . WHERE THEY ARE LOCATED iAre they located in the circuit you just replaced . I only paid $1700 for car it needs some work. as I said the remotes for locking the car don't work only flash the parking lights. so guess thats a involved project. the remotes work cause they flash the lights . I really appreciate all your help . Im new to this car and all the electronic stuff .

@@ryanreynolds7771 FCM it is the tan colored box with cooling fins (heatsinks) mounted on the wheel well, driver's side. Right behind the headlight housing. The pcm/ptcm will be located in the control module box located next to the battery where the rcm is in the video it should be beside or under the rcm just unplug the rcm and remove and you will see the pcm semi slim rectangle shape

I took the FCM out and took it apart and it was ok no burned circuits I watch another video on this and the guy showed how these burn up and melt the circuitry by taking them apart. so I resealed it and put it back, the other stuff I haven't looked at yet. I was gonna check the circuit you replaced to see if it should be soldered like you did but im not having any starting issues . just the cooling fan and remote locking
