SRV Stratocaster getting a New Neck

I read and watched plenty of articles or videos saying "the ______ had a new neck put on" just like one might say "I put replacement pickups in" or I put a new pickguiard on" or I installed new tuners on" my ______. So that means that the actual "guitar" is the body only? What if you love the neck but can't stand anything else so you buy a body, electronics and hardware?
