G Gundam takes the Gundam series from its dry, cynical, rough and gritty Real Robot world and drags it kicking and screaming into the world of Super Robot anime, and punts buildings while doing it. It's definitely awesome and different! I'm not a huge fan, but I can appreciate its over-the-topness.

Indeed. Because seriously, how many times people want to see anime with Gundam going on on a battlefield. G Gundam showed a completely different approach to the franchise and it made a success. That feel when there will be no 14th Gundam Tournament. That feel when G Gundam will never get neither a sequel nor a prequel....;_;

G Gundam is really awesome. Even the most hardcore UC fans will say that this anime is also one of their favorite.

For me "G Gundam" and "Wing" are the best ones in whole franchise.

The series outside of that gets a bit too edgy and angsty to the point that it's less about gundams and more about some angsty teenage drama (Gundam Seed). Gundam X and Turn A Gundam were pretty good, but Wing and G are my favourites by far.
