SS KEEWATIN FINAL VOYAGE TO MARITIME MUSEUM OF THE GREAT LAKES by Windsor Aerial Drone Photography

In what will undoubtedly be remembered as the maritime event for 2023, the SS Keewatin headed downstream on her way to her final resting place on April 26th, 2023.
The Keewatin is one of the largest remaining Edwardian era passenger steamers left in the world.
She is older than the Titanic and featured 108 staterooms with berths for 288 passengers and manned by a crew of 86.
Her final destination is the Marine Museum of the Great Lakes in Kingston Ontario.
We were fortunate enough to be able to document her journey down the St. Clair River to Detroit and south to Amherstburg.
While we have collected literally hundred of photos and videos, this captures some of the highlites of the voyage.
During the course of her journey, enthusiasts were lined up on both shores as the tugs Molly M I and the Manitou occasionally recognized the crowds with salutes.

It’s a beautiful looking old boat and it’s quite a pleasant surprise for it to still be on top of the water especially with the routes it sailed Let’s hope it lasts for many more years The boat has been laid up for a little bit less time than I have been on the earth I bet she will still be around when I have long gone 😂😂👍👍

As a young lad in the 50's I would bicycle with my friends, in what was then named Fort William, to the Canadian Pacific Railroad station on the bank of the Kaministiquia River. There was a wharf where the Keewatin and Assiniboia (her sister ship) would tie up and we would sneak aboard the ships when we could, and marvel at the luxury. I suppose we had it wrong but we used to pronounce her name as "key-way-tin". Thanks for a great video!

When I see “Final Voyage” I think of the last time a ship sails under her own power,not a dead ship being towed. Her final voyage was in 1969. I wish they had fired up the boilers and seen if she could do it on her own.

Milwaukee Clipper is older, but her upper structure and interiors are mid century after a 1940 refit.

Je partage totalement votre point de vue et bien que résidant en France tout près de la mer ( strait of Dover ), je m'intéresse beaucoup à l'histoire maritime des grands lacs et mon souhait serait de pouvoir un jour admirer les authentiques " lakers" dont le plus beau ou la plus belle ladie reste pour moi l'ALPENA ... I think you will find it was the Lachine Canal Keewatin would not fit through. This all began when a model builder accepted a commission to build a model of the Keewatin for a former crew member. In his research, it was discovered that Keewatin had not been scrapped and was now in Saugatuck. The crew member became friends with RJ Petersen and the rest is history.

No, they kept her preserve in Port McNicholl to the best of their ability. They were good to her.

I believe its going to Hamilton for inspection and if the repairs that are needed arent too much, they will be completed in Hamilton and then it will be a museum ship in Kingston, ONT.

Why is everything past tense? The ship still exist and will for long to come. You said she "was" so many feet long. Is the ship still that length? Did it shrink or grow when it was moved?
