Gouache is basically if acrylic could be reactivated. I love the buttery and painterly feel of gouache. It also makes watercolouring easier since you can layer lighter shades above darker ones and fix a few mistakes.

Its pretty much the thickness and vibrancy you want from acrylic, while still being forgiving like watercolour. Which makes it one of the best mediums to use. 👌🏻

I started with gouache not long ago and fell in love. I love how opaque it is and how I can layer the colors on top of each other when they are drying. My latest drawing at the end I accidentally dropped a single drop of water on the background that was filled with dark green (it was dried already) and I put my hand on the drop and smeared the green around. Luckily it’s gouache so I let it dry again and was able to easily fix the smear by coloring on top of it. I really love this medium 😍

Gouache also works really well with conte/chalk and compressed charcoal (not normal has to be compressed) since they’re water soluble. I use conte for line work on top of the gouache and can blend it in when needed. I tend to use compressed charcoal for black and white pieces as a replacement for black paint. I don’t usually like to use pure black pain in work as it muddies the colours, but compressed charcoal can get some nice deep blacks but doesn’t mix as far. Little tip if you want to try mixed media to help you get into painting

Love the stuff you’ve been making! But I do have one question: for us younger/ un-experienced artists, would it still work if you mixed the colors straight from the tubes before you paint or does most times it look/work better when you mix it on paper
@ssavaart
@ssavaart Жыл бұрын
Absolutely. A lot of artists mix the paint first on a palette. It's just a preference.

I love using gouache. I am much more used to using tempera colours, which are very thick and opaque, especially in comparison to water colours, which I am not used to at all. As this short explains, the traits of gouache mainly depend on how much water is used, which is perfect for the way I work when painting.
