SSBP Review #56 Buddy’s Union Villa ~ Easton Ma / started out with high expectations

My mission continues to find “my” top ten South Shore Bar Style pizza places! This is hard work, but someone has to do it! Follow along as I try as many of these places that I can. This is the 56 th place that I have tried! The journey is long and the road is hard. I will persevere 😂
I live in Abington which seems to be the Mecca for South Shore Bar Style pizza places, I have so many places to choose from within a 15 mile radius, all minutes from my house!
I order the same pizza (Mushrooms on 1/2 and Bacon on The Whole thing) each time, I do not ask for any modifications, I don’t ask for Laced or burnt edges, I don’t ask for extra cheese or sauce, I order it the way the establishment wants to make it.

Crossing them off my list. At the very least they are inconsistent, at the worst, they can't seem to cook a pizza right. Too many other good choices to roll the dice at Buddy's!

Hey Russ, I went there with my son today. I had the same exact same experience. I think they made Dave's portnoy extra special. Cause ours were as you said,.... just not a good pizza.

The temperature of the oven was off......likely too high and the pizza cooked too fast. That's why the outside looks great but the middle is still raw. Lower temperature, longer cook time will allow that middle to rise a little, firm up, and hold up those toppings.

That very well could have been there problem, that’s why I will give them another try at some point.

Oof, I'm pretty sure you just got a bad pizza (I hope thats what it is). I haven't been there in years but I never had a pizza like that from there before. I'm going to have to make a trip to Buddy's and see what I get. Great review Russ!🍕🍕

I went to there one time to try their pizza because I'm on a mission to try all of them in the area. I was surprised by the bill because it was more that $20.00 more than I figureed by looking at their online menu, unbeknownst to me they charge $2.50 that is TWO DOLLARS AND FIFTY CENTS TO ADD BUTNT EDGES. So $12.50 extra off the bat. Not only that but the menu prices had increased dramatically from online so when I got inside I asked to see a menu I then did the math again and it was still seven or eight dollars more the woman told me the price had changed since their menu they just handed me. If prices go up due to inflation and supply-chain situations I understand. However to charge $2.50 per pie to lace the edges or burnt edges is a crime against humanity. I will never go there again!

Some places are just not set up to do laced or burnt edges

Most places charge you for laced edges buddy. When they lace the edges they do it by adding more sauce and cheese. Of course you should be charged more if you’re gonna request more product. Don’t be cheap

The vast majority of places that serve that style of pizza absolutely do NOT charge extra so far I have only found 2 out of more than 40 that I have tried in the last year (2) out of (40). So no, most places do not charge extra for this at all. Even if there was a charge $2.50 is criminal

The photos you put at the end truly do show that when they are on point, the pizza comes out looking great. Definitely worth another visit. Also, I do completely disagree with your statement that it doesn't meet the definition of SSBP. I think it meets all of the characteristics - yes, you definitely got a very floppy pizza with the cheese and toppings sliding off and perhaps as @Brian Choy stated, the oven temp was off which is what may have caused this, but that doesn't just exclude it from being SSBP.

Live nearby, I always get "burnt edges" at Buddys That extra cooking time I am assuming firms the bottom, so I never experience that severe flop. (The flavor of the burnt edge crust is really nice anywhere imo.) In fact every bar pizza I get now Town Spa Cape Cod Emmas I make sure I say burnt or crisp edge so I dont experience what you did here. Who knows who was making it maybe a new guy but in any case it is what it is you got a bad pie.

It would be nice if it was as simple as one size fits all but pizza like women is subject to an individual's tastes if that makes sense so when you order next time maybe tell them exactly how you like it citing your past experience Thats what I do. If I dont I risk not getting the edge I like . Slowly getting through your many reviews and I enjoy them! @@tellthemrusssentyoufoodreviews

Buddy's is not one of my favorites, but you definitely got a bad pie. Most of the pies I've gotten there were on the crispy side (I don't order that way). That pizza was way undercooked.

Ross all I can say is I've been there twice and the pizza was very good... cooked the right way. I honestly think that you got horrible Pizza. I think you might want to try them one more time. But as always thanks for your reviews

When pizzas that hot you can’t even taste it it’s falling apart because it’s too fucking hot I’ve had pizza there shitty review you don’t know what you’re doing eating pizza in a car out of a box doesn’t constitute a good review any food to go never taste the same and you should know that

The vast majority of bar style pizza eaten by the public are to go, not served in the restaurant and I mean the overwhelming majority of business is to go for bar pizza. So you're doing the right thing by getting it to go making it more relatable to the people who watch your reviews
