The way game n watch does it seems too easy. Having half the gameplay just be hold shield then up B seems boring with G&W. I do it with Captain Falcon and Sora but I don’t abuse it. Not my play style, so I guess that’s g&w is not my character either

The fact that Light got the run back after that post Glitch tweet is super cool Light vs Maister also demonstrates imo how perceptions of matchups can be so different depending on the player. Light and Foxes in general tend to put Fox vs GNW as Minus 2, while Maister and GNWs tend to put the same matchup at Minus 1

I just realized, Smash Con 2019 was the first time these 2 face each other, winning Maister 3-0 and showing the world he was a threat. Now, Light won over Maister 3-2, showing the world he can overcome his worst matchups and win majors. Just awesome. I love these guys.

I think you're overrating the importance of character matchups and underrating player matchups, by that I mean Light has historically demonstrated that despite a firmly agreed upon -2 in GnW, he has gone back and forth over the course of Ultimate with Maister, most likely because Light's aggressive playstyle counters Maister's/GnW's fear factor later in the set, meaning that Light isn't responding to Maister's conditioning the majority of the time. It comes down to the wire a lot between these two.

If he picked a character that everyone didn’t hate he’d get more love lol But regardless, dudes elite and deserves his flowers as one of the best in the world. Light won fair and square, you’re complaining about his gameplay when maister is literally the scariest game and watch in the world, the only way to play against a game and watch is to be opportunistic because he usually dictates the pace of the march, especially when you have a disadvantage in the matchup. Like I said game and watch usually dictates the pace, light playing less aggressively than usual is because of the matchup.

Some people are entertained probably because of several reasons: 1. Maister is a dedicated G&W main. He's mained him since Smash 4. He has pushed the G&W meta and is the one who actually pointed out G&W's viability in tournaments. 2. Maister is an underdog in a lot of cases. He's hasn't been able to win against MKLeo's Byleth in a set ever. However, he's made advances in that matchup where he was able to go 2-3 against Byleth. 3. This links back to 2: G&W can be played aggressively, and in matches where there are disjoints like against Byleth, G&W has to find a way to get in. Honestly, I think the only reason why people find G&W boring is the same reason why people hate Hungrybox's Jigglypuff in Melee: they can be played defensive characters that will have massive punishes for just simply approaching. The reason you probably hate G&W in this set is because Fox has to play incredibly carefully or else get 50% from one combo. Fox can't perform his aggressive and flashly style of freeflow combos. Heck, if Fox hits a dash attack on shield, he will get hit with a 50% combo or just die from up smash, a giant annoyance. And this I totally get. I was rooting for Light ALL the way. However, try taking a look at the set of Maister vs MKLeo at Glitch. Here, Maister is being forced to play aggressively because he's the one who has to find a way to get around MKLeo's disjoints. And while I would have liked MKLeo to win the whole tournament, honestly part of me was rooting for Maister to get over his demon and find a way to beat MKLeo's Byleth.

maister's entertaining because he's the only player who can make g&w work at a top level. it's easy to call him a masher but his character loses handily to disjoints and he deals with poor matchups like a goddamn beast. character might need a rework to make him less polarizing but it's hard not to root for maister when he gets a reverse 3-0 vs pythra (i was rooting for light this set fwiw)

@@Exl6243 to be fair, HBOX’s jiggs uses elaborate platform traps to get his opponents into scramble situations he can capitalize on (apparently it’s called “wave dash drops “) among other conditioning techniques but in general an HBOX’s match at a top level is a suspense filled game of chess where every opening matters And jigs as a character in general has a more a more cohesive and harmonious kit then GnW, (Td;er his moves on their are neat on their on but together in the same character they feel disjointed character)

Tbh, Fox is way less unfair than G&W No hate for the character, I like it too but G&W has a lot of moves that just crazy in a way, like all his smash in a way (a down smash can lead to a forward smash so it kills sooner than Fox's upsmash), his up-b, up-air and his side-b on top of that (side-b is not that good but can sometimes take stocks at 10%) I don't really see a broken move for Fox, all his moves are pretty strong but none is OP or gamebreaking

It’s not meant to be just a reflector. This moves purpose is primarily absorbing projectiles. Considered oil panic in it of itself is already a very strong move I think the devs wanted to make that move committal
