Bars >32 mm: Mechanical couplers or welding are recommended. Bars >36 mm: Lapping is not permitted, and welding or mechanical connections are mandatory.

Confusion Points According to 3rd amendment of IS 456: 2000 in 2007, the value was changed from 36 mm to 32 mm. So, 36 mm is an old provision and 32 mm is a new provision
