The main reason for the location of armature in rotor in case of DC machinea is the requirement for the reversal of current on surpassing the brush axis whereas in synchronous or induction machine we don't need to reverse the current Further alternators are associated with large amt of current so the insulation will be easy if armature is placed on stator Secondly if field winding is established in rotor we can achieve a high rotor inertia beigh light in weight Cooling of armature will be more easy due to heavy curent and etc
