Enterprise Security teams are drowning in Security tools. According to a 2022 survey by Panaseer, the average fortune 500 security department is using 76 discrete security products. Worse, hybrid work is driving an increase in the need for tools by 19%. Results are not good. We’ve seen more breaches, more ransomware, more security bad news over the past 24 months.
Next month the RSA conference held in San Francisco will lead to another surge in security vendors and tools being bought. While we are awash in technology to defend the digital estate, there is a movement to push back on point products. Large security vendors are touting another approach. Consolidation and single vendor. This is not a novel approach for IT. Similar strategies have been employed by vendors since the dawn of the bit. What does it mean and what does the Security leader need to understand about this new wave of consolidation?
