During the early morning hours right before shift change, SSFR was dispatched to a reported fully engulfed structure fire. Dispatch advised responding units the structure was believed to be abandoned. Response view is from Engine 121. Heavy smoke was visible for miles during the response. Firefighters arrived on scene and found a fully engulfed, abandoned, residential structure fire. It was noted that live power lines were down across the entire yard. First due engine stretched two 1 3/4 attack lines to begin fire attack. Second due engine laid in a supply line from the hydrant approximately 700ft from the structure. Firefighters operated in a defensive attack. While operating, crews were dispatched to a second residential structure fire with smoke visible per the caller. PCFD responded as mutual aid as well as Chief 100 to the scene. The cause of the first fire was left undetermined at this time. The cause of the second fire was determined to be an electrical malfunction. Units operated on the scene for approximately four hours before returning to service.

SSFR is a combination department in East Alabama running with a 24/7 paid EMS crew, and a paid Fire Officer Monday - Friday during business hours with volunteer firefighters completing staffing during all hours of the day and night. SSFR runs approximately 2800 emergency calls annually.
