I used to have one of these practice mutes back when I played trombone. I haven’t used it in a while, and don’t remember the brand. But it was a lifesaver in my college dorm room. Great review!

Would you recommend replacing corks on mutes if you find that you have intonation problems after using a mute? Like all the notes are slightly flat or sharp?

That depends, usually they just need to be filed a little bit more. If the low G/F# speak well and then if the mute is designed well the intonation should be as good as it’s going to be. Occasionally they might be in the wrong place (too high/low on the mute), but typically it’s the thickness, and most often they need to be filed down a little bit.
