Going through comments people expected to have it either for free or bigger or with an audio interface or this and that. So you want the SSL quality but you want it for cheap? I don’t get that. What’s happening with this generation of people who wants everything easy and with minimum struggle? Where’s your creativity gone? Routing hard to understand? Perhaps you guys need to do your homework and work harder before stepping into this venture. Thanks SSL for this nice video, very well crafted. It's still quite expensive for the kind of market a 2+ channel mixer would fit but, if it really houses the same circuitry that high-end SSL console have it's definitely a product that sits up in the rare air.

@@aaronmughal1493 that would be amazing and exciting if those companies were competing that way for us to benefit from.
@CLdwyer3 жыл бұрын
@@YourBusinessGeek The price is not low. $1500 for the unit. Probably another $500 for the cabling and patching too (that part is overlooked). But if it can SSL like a real one, then it’s probably a steal. The fully functional version of all its parts - VHD Preamps (2) $1400 - E Channel Comps (2) $2000 - E Channel EQ (2) $2000 - G Bus Comp $3000 Plus integrated routing and patching. Cue busses & more. Full Patchbay & cable expenses could run ya another $1000 or so doing the outboard. So [if] it performs, it’s a bargain. And it probably does perform. I can let ya know. I get mine in a week. Waited on the purchase a while before pulling the trigger.

What was the verdict? Still rocking it? Interested.
@CLdwyer3 жыл бұрын
@@ryanshook8284 Good question! The real dirty: It's not just $1500. (again) It'll be about $2k for real if you want all the functionality & protection with casing & db25 breakout cables. The utility: Yes. I'm still rocking it as a centerpiece of my setup. The pre's often replace my Apollo for inputs. Below are the uses I have for it. - Vocals (Sung) - Channel Comp has a perfect release time for most sung vocals. EQ has always been spot on when needed - Vocals (Rap) - The Bus Comp has a flattering comp for rap/spoken vocals - Electric Guitar - The Bus Comp has a flattering/glueing compression for EGTR - Acoustic Guitar - The Bus Comp also responds well to acoustic guitar transients (especially blending a room mic - can really round out the image) - Bouncing Stems - Clipping the input and output can yield some dynamic control for final stems or mixdown. Overall: I use it for tracking and bounce down. It shines most for me this way. Gives me a very high quality input with none of the noisy A/D & aliasing artifacts that can occur and muddy up recordings. I even prefer it more than using my Apollo pres very often but will also combine them when it's flattering. As a mixing tool it isn't my preferred cuz I like to function fast and prefer ITB for that reason. Having EQ & Comp as an option w/o latency or negative digital drawbacks is a large upgrade in recording for anyone that's still primarily ITB. I'd otherwise just be working ITB tbh. Cuz a comparable signal path with hardware would cost me thousands more. So if you need something to serve functions like this, you'd be pleased. If it's about mixing, hardware could be a more expensive path.

I love SSL but Mackie invented a lot of routing options and a lot of innovations that were later on used by other companies, SSL included. This would be perfect at 16 channels. Make a version with 16 channels and a hybrid of the nucleus so you have a transport with daw control. That would be perfect for the home studio setup. Great for tracking a whole band (drums, guitars, synths, etc.) and for controlling your daw. And at least 16 channels for analog summing. I think that would be perfect especially if you kept the pricing under $10k.
@Screaming-Trees5 жыл бұрын
That's the Matrix isn't it?
@Jay-tp4df5 жыл бұрын
When Trees Will Rule The World Again no. Matrix doesn’t have a eq or compressor and it has 40 channels of summing. It’s made for a person who has a lot of outboard gear due to routing options - no patch bay needed.
@Screaming-Trees5 жыл бұрын
@@Jay-tp4df Sure but it still ticks two of the boxes you've asked for. Transport/daw control and higher channel count (ok it's higher than you need but strictly speaking it delivers what you asked for). You don't get channel strips so no EQ and there is no stereo compressor but as I say you do get two out of three things you asked about. You're not getting 16 channels with daw control and channel strips though. That's going to push the price to 10k or more. So take your pick. But I mean if you want to have a hybrid workflow $1500 ain't gonna cut it. You may not realise this but a 16 channel console will set you back two or three grand in cabling alone. Then of course you need a top tier DA because without it hybrid workflow just doesn't make sense. A 16 channel SSL is simply not happening if for the infrastructure costs alone.
@Jay-tp4df5 жыл бұрын
When Trees Will Rule The World Again I understand what you’re saying but I think it’s doable based off the current pricing of the nucleus and the SiX. All they would be doing is adding the channel strip to each channel for the nucleus. The six already comes with 2 channel strips of mic pre, eq, and compressor which makes up less than 50% of the product for $1500. And it would be more useful than the Matrix because of the eq, compressor, and bus compressor for recording. The matrix is designed for people with a lot of outboard gear.
@Screaming-Trees5 жыл бұрын
@@Jay-tp4df Well fine but it's not going to happen for $1500 all in. The Nucleus is $5700 USD new. It's also manufactured in the UK. So what do you do use Nucleus as a basis and just add channel strips? 16 Eq's and 16 compressors and a buss compressor is going to run up the price. The two channel strips do indeed make up less than 50% of the product but you don't know how much of that $1500 they make up. It could be a $1000 right. How much is the cheapest outboard channel strip with EQ and Compression? More than a thousand I'm sure. But let's be very generous and say another 3k for rudimentary EQ and compression to make up the 16 channels (which I seriously doubt by the way) and now you're pushing 9 grand total. There is no way you're getting 16 channels of EQ and compression in a product worth 9 grand. I've owned a console for years now but when I was looking to buy there was nothing under 45k (that was circa 2015). Even the AWS doesn't have compression on each channel. Can it be done? It hasn't been done yet. Can they do it using the Six mentality and with all the features you mention? I don't know. It's doubtful. In my experience you don't get a lot of console for even 15k. Take the XL desk it's a good console but only 8 pres. No EQs and no channel compression. I'd love to see it too by the way but I don't know. It's doubtful that it can be brought to even a 10k price point. The kind of feature set you're talking about.

Elliot Vaughan SERIOUSLY! This is the strangest “hybrid” product attempt! It’s versatile, sure, but it’s also like... cluttered(?) and trying to straddle two worlds in a way that I’m not sure ends up really properly addressing the modern workflow people are trying to move into more and more. Yes, for example, many of us would kill to get our hands off the mouse and onto analog gear, but then do we really want to spend that saved time on routing and patching and i/o?? Ergonomic/workflow clutterer that creates problems as it solves problems. I WANT it to be great (I mean, SSL sound under $2k!?), but I just... don’t see it :/ :(
@ElliotVaughan5 жыл бұрын
