I really like those vacuum sealing containers. You might want to try adding oxygen absorbing packets to whatever you’re putting in the container as long as it’s dry.

I have heard that if you freeze your dry goods Pasta,beans, Rice , Grains that it will kill the bugs then you just have to keep it sealed. One video i watched they talked the grocery store into letting them put their stuff in the Grocer freezer over night and then picked it up and had no problems with bugs. I cannot verify this but it is worth looking into. Thank for another great video.

Hint on the vacuum seal containers. I have found with the Food Saver ones that if I slightly wet the rubber seal prior to vacuuming I get a longer lasting seal. I don' think any of these are actually meant to stay sealed for months. Couple of weeks and you need to give a little vacuum refresher.

Freezing dry goods before storage also help get rid of bugs. Ask if the store can freeze your dry goods for a couple days before to bring them to the boat, then pack them up.

You need to freeze the rice and flour for 24 hrs then vacuum seal with basil leaves and it will last months. No bugs if you added mylar bags and a oxygen absorber it would last years.

I know the Columbian Coast Guard seemed a little overkill with your beach excursion, but I have to give them props. Sailing into Freedom had found themselves in a weird exile as country after country kicked them out because of the Covid 19 craziness and wouldn't let them even enter to get fuel, water, or food. I believe they are an Australian Vessel and that is why they were having so many issues. They were camping out trying to catch enough food to eat in a very desolate atoll in Columbian waters when the Columbian Coast Guard found them. The Coast Guard brought them food, water and fuel, but then made arrangements for them to sail to San Andreas Island and stay. I don't know how far behind their videos are so I don't know if they are their already or where they are now, but that was really beyond and above! I was really impressed with Columbia as a country and the coast guard. The Coast Guards first concern was getting them necessities for living.

Capt. Rick, I need a link please for that vacuum container, or it's manufacture name. I've been searching Amazon for over an hour now and can't find the same brand. The one's I've found seem cheap or else you have to use a cheap pump. Yours looks way more durable which is important for a boat. I like the rectangular model better than the round I found. The round is the only one that works like your product.

I would suspect that the coast guard's firm position on island hopping is on purpose. The isles are ideal drop off and pick up points for drug smuggling. It wasn't personal. They are just not going to tell you why.
