I really recommend livebearers like guppies. What is cool about it is they breed so fast you can even sell them.

great video again. I'm just getting into aquaponics, about to build my first system. planning on doing a small indoor system in my living room with a 40 - 50 gallon fish tank and 2 grow beds. son I am on a budget right now I'll most likely go with goldfish. my question is how many fish do I need for this particular set up? how many do you think would get the job done?

I enjoy your videos. I'm nowhere near having an aquaponics system, but when I get there I know where to get my information. Off topic what are you going to use those empty jars for? I have a bunch but have no use for them. Also I'm almost done with my version of your chicken coop, later into this year than I would have liked though. I can't wait!

ibeat theleaves Glad to hear you have your coop! I am saving the jars for different reasons one of which is organizing "things" in my garage. Others are to store dried herbs, homemade soaps, toothpaste, etc. Thanks for following along!

I tried feeding my tilapia scraps from filleting a salmon, and they wouldn't have anything to do with it. The bluegill and goldfish loved it, but not the tilapia. They will, however, eat just about anything edible that floats. I had a fair bit of basil go bad, I think from root rot, and they ate all of that, along with a bunch of chocolate mint. Both of which surprised me.

I'm curious to know if you use structured, magnetic water or if have integrated any type of vortex system in your aquaponics setup. We're installing our system and I was wondering if you had any experience with these type of upgrades. Thanks!

I'm planning on building a aqua ponic thingy. I'm going to use bluegill I think. I may end up using goldfish cause they are like 15 cents each.

I have 2 25 gallon tanks with guppies and swordtails that I am considering converting to an aquaponic system. Is this possible Or do I have to use bigger tanks and fish? What are the costs likely to be if I can do it?

I did but they all died when I had a water flow issue I was unaware of. I am redesigning the system with a bigger tank for the fish and then I will do them again

couldn't you use the goldfish to feed the tilapia when they get bigger?
@SSLFamilyDad
@SSLFamilyDad 9 жыл бұрын
My Fantasy Farm - Tiny Seeds Do you mean feed the goldfish to the Tilapia? hmmmm, hadn't thought of that but these goldfish have become kind of monsters, not sure the tilapia could eat them unless I turned them into a goldfish smoothie first and who wants to do that:) My wife would kill me! Thanks for checking it out!

SSLFamilyDad thanks for your response. I know tilapia get pretty big and I've only seen gold fish the size of dimes so I was thinking of doing this when I set up my system.

feeding goldfish is bad to do for a number of reasons. 1 goldfish carry a lot of disease unique to cold water.so you'll put your fish at disease risk. 2.goldfish are very fatty and are basically junk when it comes to nutrition. 3.feeding live fish can make them become aggressive. 4.they are mostly herbivoreus and shouldn't be eating to much animal matter. also the reason you don't see to big goldfish is you owes see them as babies and normally die from in proper care before they become an adult.

Interesting time we live in. The grand kids in the future wouldn't know what a Pets Mart is. People are also starting to order rare and exotics plants like the cocoa beans plants. May be instead going out to a Xmas tree just order.

Maurice Matla goldfish get up to 10 inches (depending on breed)
@darlenecane3539
@darlenecane3539 6 жыл бұрын
Maurice Matla actually goldfish do grow big if they are in the right size tank. In their natural habitat they grow up to 30 inches and live several years. The reason they are small and short lived in captivity is that they are kept in small containers. This stunts their growth and shortens their lives

+BigC954 Best thing to do is start with just a few for that size system and then add more as the system gets settled in and bacteria colonies get established. I would say start with about10 goldfish and see if that will work.

I'm probably going to use goldfish or catch some baby bluegill out of my aunts pond. they weren't supposed to breed fast but did
@briannaharter4411
@briannaharter4411 8 жыл бұрын
that's way to many goldfish.I would say 5 at max since goldfish as they grow get huge and they are waste producing monsters.if you want more fertilizer when they are babies it's real easy to feed them more and to raise the tempter so their metabolic rate goes up but it's kind of hard to give away goldfish when they start to get into the 10 to 15 inch monster they can be. also if you say they'll grow to the size of the tank look up something called psychosocial dwarfism which is what you are doing when you force a goldfish to live in a tank way to small for them.
