Well done everyone, you made me late for work on two mornings trying to watch this one Steve.....😂 Now my wife's health is in good hands I would like to enter next year mate. Nic is saving me a potato to see if I can grow a big one for Malvern from this variety. ♻️Happy gardening, Terry King.

Well done guys and really interesting Steve! I did see your early door videos on this as a new sub and wasn't sure what it was about. So do you chit the potatoes and send them out to ppl who join the challenge? I got into growing potatoes by accident. We threw some potato skins in the composter and found one had sprouted white, which i thought was a root! haha. I planted it upside down in the "science" pot aka doggy native clay soil in a 30cm pot and was totally surprised with the yield. The peel broke off when planting upside down too end of July and harvested in the end of Oct. I think was over a pound of potatoes in the end. We do several pots twice a year now. When do you start chitting yours? Have you seen Home Grown Veg? He does container gardening in 10 inch ex water buckets, he got from Morrisons for free.
@DigwellGreenfingers23 күн бұрын
Hi. No, the seed spuds are sent out "as is" - some may have started to chit but not by me forcing them. It is then up to the entrants to do as they wish with them. I start chitting about a month before planting out, so sometime mid Feb usually. I do watch Home Grown Veg now and then. I'd be careful with his latest one about saving store bought spuds to chit in Spring, though, as many are sprayed with a growth inhibitor (when was the last time you saw chits on spuds in the store?) Have a great week
@AnyKeyLady19 күн бұрын
@@DigwellGreenfingers Ok. Yes we grow potatoes from the store for some years now. What does the growth inhibitor meant to do? Does it affect the taste of the grown potatoes? We haven't noticed anything. Yes we start chitting in Jan in cups. Have a great week too. Take care!
