More facts about why they banned it : From what I understand, In July and August 1991, some random people stuck gum between MRT train doors and it caused the trains to stop as the doors could not close fully. So after this incident, the government banned chewing gum. If you get caught selling it too, you get $200SGD (around $1514USD) fine or you go to jail for about 1 year for 1st offence.
